iPhone 5S Reportedly Slated for March Production with June/July Launch

There's that overused innovation word again. Do you just mean "new stuff"? Not all new features are "innovative." I really don't think there's been anything truly "innovative" in cellphones since the launch of the original iphone in 2007.

How about the "now I know the iPhone 5 is a dog, and not just my buggy one..."

If they "fix" issues with the 5 with the 5S, I'll feel quite slighted, because my iPhone 5 feels like a Beta test product. If it requires new hardware rather than a software update, it's proof that Apple has jumped the shark. Or more precisely, returned to their crap days of the mid 90s, where they would release broken technology, selling those broken features as the reason to buy, then never fix them. Think first models of Quadra AV.

Basically, as a very competitive company, Apple will release a new iPhone to match that highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S4 (and Note 3) to be released in the next few months.

I'm afraid Samsung's Galaxy S4 and Note 3 will win this year.
Just in time as a graduation gift for me.

I agree on this.
If there updated iPads were to be released in March, we'd see stock price rise now. Not being the case, I believe that June refresh and introduction are earliest for all iOS devices.

Yeah no kidding, and as for games on my phone, the extent of that goes about as far as "words with friends"... Maybe. I would love a galaxy s3 sized screen... I use my phone for lots of work, email, and other productivity apps. Like you mentioned, I couldn't care about smoother video games on my phone, that's what my computer and Xbox are for! I just want apple to keep up with the competition. I will NOT own another junk android phone filled with bloat ware and a fragmented OS. But if apple doesn't step up to the plate soon, I might be picking one up. Seems like in recent times, the iPhone is just old news.
 
Apple is pushing to have good hardware, but exceptional software is what makes the difference. This is where Apple needs to differentiate and keep pushing forward. Unfortunately, their competitors just knock-off any advantage in the next update.
 
Quickly... Since Mr. Jobs sad passing, Apple seems to be on cruise control. A company that has $150B in cash should be doing more. Where are updated Mac Pros? Why did the iMac update take so long? Why has iOS not seen any significant changes in the last 5 years? The newest iPhone looks stagnant compared to previous iterations of the same product, especially when compared with the competition... Apple needs to shake things up, there is a perception that their product development has slowed to a crawl.

The day Jobs passed was the day they introduced the iPhone 4S. Since then, we've seen the iPhone 5, two iterations of the iPad, and a smaller 7" iPad. Nothing new here - variations on the same theme. iOS still sports the same app grid it's had for seven years and is looking more and more outdated compared to Android offerings. Whether it's true or not, that seems to be the popular perception.

I don't think a new Mac Pro will work well as a portable phone - even if they make it slightly less than the 45lb doorstop it will be replacing. ;)

Well, to the iPhone 4S's credit, I thought it looked like it was a substantial upgrade over the iPhone 4. Graphics chips aside, it also had a significantly more powerful camera and Siri. The way I saw it, apple should have just renamed the thing iPhone 5.

But still, a pretty incremental upgrade, compared to the 4 which had the retina display and the redesigned case and stuff.

Though I really do hope for a radical refresh to the Mac Pro this year.

BEING IN PRODUCTION !!! Not just a rumoured date pulled out of the air date from some random analyst :rolleyes:

At least here we have a rumoured production date for the iPhone 5S. Yet we have had nothing about new iPads actually being in production or evidence of parts leaked by suppliers or third party case suppliers to warrant or give merit to a March release.
 
Doesnt bother me, Im waiting for the iPhone 6 before I upgrade. The iPhone 5 does not have enough compelling reasons to upgrade from my iPhone 4 considering I dont need siri or apple maps (google maps are way better anyways).

me too. Those aluminium cases just way too expensive.
 
Can't please everyone. Just because Apple hasn't "innovated" recently doesn't mean the iPhone is a horrible device. The iPhone 5 works VERY well and is IMO Apple's best phone to date.

The iPhone 4 was a huge step up when it released.

Apple isn't a perfect company. They're not gonna be able to keep wowing us. Jumping to Android just because you're bored with iOS doesn't even make sense. How is Android innovating? I'm sure that'll get tired too...

Apple has been the same during Jobs and AFTER Jobs. It's just that you guys are becoming unbearably critical because he's gone and because Apple has so much money.

Now that Apple is the "it" product, the golden child, everyone is losing their minds.
 
Cheaper iPhone

I really like the idea of having a slightly cheaper iPhone some people are not to bothered about having a retina display on a phone.

Actually, Apple has done ONE thing since Steve's passing... made thinner, lighter versions of things that were already plenty thin and light. They did this to the iMac, the iPhone, and the Macbook Pro.
I really think this company is lost without Jobs. They're just running on fumes now. :(
edit: Ok, the 2011 27" iMac I own is definitely a hefty rig at 30 pounds, and I'd jump at an opportunity to shave off 9 pounds... but if that comes at the expense of being able to easily open and close the computer to access internal components, I'll pass. The iMac was made thinner, even though it didn't really need to be.

My eye is on the Nexus 4. I've had enough of the iPhone - it's price, the staleness of iOS 6 and Apple's assumption that I'll senselessly adopt whatever product they push at me next. My iPhone 4 will not be replaced with an Apple product unless they can produce a £300 iPhone with the same features as the Nexus 4 (as I'm in the UK, 4G LTE is pretty useless to me and why it hikes up the price £300 in the iPhone 5 is beyond me). In addition, I want an OS that is not hamstrung by design. Perhaps we don't quite need the openness of Android, but then again, there must be a nice medium. iOS 6 simply doesn't cut it.

There are those that say the build quality of the Nexus is not as good as the iPhone, and they would be correct - to a point (my iPhone 4's power button is broken, and it seemed to do this mysteriously on its own during the night). Apple is not exactly encouraging us to hold onto our previous models. As these phones only last us about two years, the fact that the iPhone is surrounded by a metal band versus a plastic band matters little.

Google is by no means producing a cheaper product for the betterment of humanity, and there has to be a reason they've released the Nexus in such limited quantities (probably so as not to piss off other manufacturers that are licensing Android and offering phones at significantly higher costs - I'm looking at you, Samsung). However, Apple seems so afraid to piss off investors by lowering their profit margins per phone, that we'll likely not see a phone of the calibre of the Nexus 4 at a similar cost come from Apple (the fact that an unlocked 8GB iPhone 4 costs more than the unlocked 16GB Nexus 4 is laughable).

Give us a reason to want to buy into your B.S., Apple. We've got to waste our hard-earned cash somehow. If we can't save it, we might as well spend it on a suitable iOS device rather than jump ship to Android, a platform Steve Jobs wanted to destroy.
 
I had always loved the "s" versions of the iPhone

but looking at whats going on, am getting worried about this cheaper product:( coming from the "s" range

Yeah, that's a little confusing. I certainly wouldn't be interested in a plastic or polycarbonite phone.

Perhaps Apple will have a higher end line for the iPhone and lower end line.
