If you paid any attention to the numerous threads on numerous forums posted by others, Apple has often rejected repair for devices if there was even so much as a dent on the device. It is not uncommon, regardless of leaked damage assessment documents, for Apple to say no and users to believe there is no way Apple would cover the repair/replacement.
iphones dont just crack on their own.
I should blame myself for overtightening one of the screws of the screen itself
There was a story posted by someone here a while ago with a single hairline crack, they've placed their iPhone in the accessory holder under the car deck and it got hot, cracked the screen like the OP. The genius and Appl Store MGMT figured it out and still replaced his IP5 with a warning.
lets re-read that part right there. the screen didn't crack itself.
But is it even POSSIBLE to overtighten one of those screws on the side of the screen frame with a tiny tiny screwdriver that would cause it to crack on its own? I doubt it... I blame it more on my generic/aftermarket screen replacement than anything else.
And thanks for choosing the select part of my quote to make it say something else... the rest of my quote said "I couldn't decide if..." Kind alters the meaning a bit, don't ya think?![]()
Nice find! I'll reference this document from now on, if only to put an end to the countless armchair critics here who think they know better.
That is unless they have been changed since being made public. And you don't know that.
What original post? That's not the original poster.you also didn't mention that you tightened a screw in the original post. kind of alters the meaning a bit, don't ya think?![]()
I can always confirm with my sister who's an Apple store manager. In fact, one of my kids' iPads will need to be swapped out because there's a hairline crack at a corner so we at least know that single hairline crack is still eligible for warranty services.
Keep us posted as to changes in policy. My thought is though a single hairline crack that can be shown to be caused be accidental or intentional damage should not be covered. I am not apple though and I would think they would want to provide legitimate coverage while desling appropriately with scammers.
This is g.t.n. info though.
That was my initial thought as well and I tried to argue that with my sister (to no avail of course). However, after thinking about it I now believe their rationale for having such a policy is it may not have produced just a single hairline crack from a drop if it wasn't for a possible manufacturing defect in the screen (given that many people drop their iPhones without cracking) or it's too problematic to screen legitimate causes hence the blanket policy.
I would not worry about scammers when it comes to single hairline cracks. You'd have to be quite lucky to cause a single hairline crack intentionally. Most drops/impacts cause multiple curved or spiderweb cracks.

Hey guys, thanks for all the reply. Tonight i just got my replacement phone back. Although it took like 2 weeks (well, shipping to singapore and a chinese new year holiday add some extra days), i am still grateful that apple willing to replace for free. Wonder any other phone company does that..?
