Iphone 5s fire

I'm working with Apple sr. Advisor and engineers on issue. They have all the photos and video. I understand the protocol but I don't feel comfortable posting that stuff as Apple is working on issue. Also as they've had time to review and give me some kind of resolution. I don't know WHY I have to wait and that it's the engineers call as to when or if I get a replacement. The phone was one day old. That's my frustration. But I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and have followed their protocol. I just want a working iPhone 5s that I paid for. I rely on it. As I said before, apple support have been very professional and nice. It's just the not knowing what's going on? I feel like they don't believe me or just can't believe the iPhone had burned. It was a small fire, but a fire nonetheless and scared the heck out of me. But, isolated incident it appears. I think they are really wanting to figure out why so it doesn't happen again. But in meantime, can I get a iPhone 5s just like the one I ordered??

Likely Cause = Faulty battery...

They swapped it no questions asked. The tech plainly told me that I was within the return window and if I was unhappy with any reason, he'd exchange it.

I was in and out in 5 minutes. I did get an ATT replacement instead of a T-Mobile one, but it's just as unlocked as my other one was. (Both my T-Mobile SIM and current ATT sim worked fine.)

I am happy it's just as clean as my last phone, no dings, scratches, interlacing or anything. I am also happy I can use my phone without a case again.

Cases suck...lol :D

Well, the first thing you need to do is make up your mind.

That would seem to be a tough call in his/her situation. Shocked/burned/vibrated to death or replace/not replace Fone?

What applicable laws of physics would passing a _specific_ metallic bridge cause intermittent problems with a user's iFone? No OTHER bridge - just THIS particular one?

Wears aluminum foil hats & wristbands maybe? Carries loose batteries in pocket with change & house/car keys?

We're sorry, your body is too weak to handle electronics.

Wearing hats made of alu-mini-um foil (tin foil doesn't work) and matching wristbands has been shown to noticeably increase the wearer's cellular wave reception in those areas where the signal strength drops below 40-50 "bars" on their device. 'Course, so would jacking the thing into a 2-meter satellite antenna or the radio antenna array out at Hat Creek or the Atacama Sub-Millimeter Array down in Chile.

Think you're nervous? Think about this. If it happened to ONE iFone 5s, what's to say it won't happen to YET ANOTHER 5s? There could be a whole container load of bad Fones coming out of China/Singapore/Hong Kong/Korea that exhibit this same problem. You could even get a replacement Fone with a bad battery that EXPLODES when you put it up to your ear. Think about THEM apples (no pun intended).

Do you know if there are any metal detectors or some kind of other scanning equipment in use there?

The building where I work takes security issues seriously because of the work we do, and they have magnetic scanners at the security checkpoint for the entrance. If I hold my 5s in my hand while going through that checkpoint, it will vibrate at a low, strong, noticeable rate. It's been known for a long time among my co-workers and the security folks that if you have a Blackberry or other device with magnets in it, they will react with the scanner and vibrate. It's not harmful to the device, or you. It's not been an issue noticed for iPhone users, up until the 5s came out though.

There might be something with a component in the 5s (the M7 chip? different compass module?) that has a stronger magnetic field than previous versions, causing this. Again, it seems to be harmless so far.

The charging/burning thing though, I've not experienced at all. You should probably get that checked out.

Of course anything with metal in it is going to be affected by strong electro-magnetic fields such as those found in security scanners & MRI machines. How do you think those kinds of things work?

You are not being burned. Skin does not burn until it touches something around 130 F, so I think you're fine. But if you are getting electrocuted, I think you should go to the apple store.

Umm, Apple are normally very good about changing something like that.

I had the power brick on my old whitebook spark and arc from the duckhead when I plugged it in. It was replaced without question. Call AppleCare and be assertive. They should exchange your phone. They can investigate when they have the phone back.

I read an article that Apple products was shocking people so bad that it killed a woman and another man got shocked by an iPad and it flew him across the room! :|

I don't believe you. Could you please post the article, so we can see if it is from a credible source?

Welcome to the club. I've been to the same spot and got the same tingle. I wan't carrying my iPhone, I don't have room for it in my tights. Spray your house for spiders, a couple got out of the lab after biting me. It's just your new spidey sense. It is pretty alarming at first, but you get used to it.

This thread is a joke, thanks to the useless responses of nearly all of the "posters".
OP, talk with Apple on the phone, and see what could they manage to do.
Or find a serious place, if you wish to discuss your issue further. MacRumors is not meant to be a place of serious discussion, aside from a few helpful posters that will occasionally give some help.

I'll probably take it to the Apple store in a few days - but I am wondering if anyone else is going through this.

I use my phone in bed and when it's charging I get a burning sensation if any metal part of the phone touches my skin. This occurs whether I am using the charge port on my Microsoft Surface, Macbook Air or the included wall charger. It's my first phone with the new charger, and I am only using official Apple cables.

Also, occasionally when passing past certain areas, (59th street bridge especially for some odd reason) if I have the phone in my hand - I'll feel like the phone has electricity (or static) moving across the body. This is just holding the phone in hand - not charging it.

It's weird; anyone else seen this issue? I don't want to keep the phone because I'm afraid it'll explode or something, but am afraid that I won't be able to convince an Apple tech to replace it. FWIW, the phone is in absolutely mint condition, so I could just return it if anything.

Trust me, I get the same feeling when I turn on personal hotspot. But it only happens when I tether. Perhaps you could try turning off unnecessary radios like bluetooth or even airdrop. I believe turning on these radios especially airdrop increases radio activity. Personally, I don't really bother because I feel my body is rather sensitive to radio frequencies and electricity. I feel static easily when I stand on escalators for some reason.
If anything else, bring it back to Apple.

Two possible cures:

Turn off the porn. Tests have shown stuff.

You are holding it wrong. Can't believe I am the first to think of this...
