I just checked stores in the Los Angeles area and we're in the same boat out here: no in-store pickup anywhere. I took the advice of one of the Apple sales guys at the Topanga Plaza store and ordered my 5s on 10/5 from the online Apple Store. I received a notification late last night that it was shipped from China with an ETA of 10/17. Not too bad.

My local store in Birmingham, UK gets 10 a day which are already all reserved by 7am...

The delivery on Friday lasted until noon on Monday, I was told. I missed the last one by twenty minutes. I just walked to the nearest 3 store and picked one up. It had plenty in all colours and sizes. Will cost me £15 to unlock at the end of the month but worth it to avoid queueing or waiting weeks for delivery only to get a scratched or otherwise duff phone then having to wait weeks again for a replacement.

Here in Canada, there are no enough supplies of iPhone 5s in Apple Stores. That's why I ordered one online. And now, it says it'll be shipped by Oct. 24-28 and delivers by Nov. 6! Tsk tsk!

Mine says the same on my order with the exception of it being delivered by Nov. 2nd. Now my iPhone I was going to sell to Gazelle is not going to be worth as much as it was originally

Same here. I went to the store and bought a Black 5S on launch day but wanted Gold. My business partner wants a black so I ordered myself a Gold 32 on 9/22 and I just received the same "shipped by Oct 24-28" "Receive by Nov 4th" notification.

Not like this is life or death I was just hoping to have it sooner.

I wonder why there is no Black? Doesn't really seem to cut into 5S sales, does it? Maybe a Black would make too large a portion of the other colors unappealing and be tough to meet demand? Sure would sell a very large amount. :apple:

Hardest to manufacture, one sees every scratch, spec of dirt, anything!

But, and that's what Apple forgets: Most of us use cases!!

I wish rumor sites would quite giving Gene Munster the time of day. This is a guy who does surveys based on standing outside the Apple store at Mall of America for two hours. And the guy who predicted the 5C wouldn't have Siri or a read facing camera to make it cheap. Another Minnesota embarrassment (and we have a lot of them).

Agreed. When Munster finally stops saying there'll be an Apple television set, then I might believe something he says.

Supplies? My local AT&T (Floral Park, NY), told me they were given 60 units on 9/20. My daughter was able to order a 32GB silver (the best looking of all of them) on Monday and it arrived at the store today(Friday). Not too bad but it's absurd that they have no inventory almost a month after release.

Can it get any worse?

5S availability has been an absolute joke. How many 5S did they produce? Were they literally all sold out the first weekend? And, there's people who ordered in wee hours of launch day morning who still did not receive their phone?!

Using the online tools, from Apple or 3rd party, the 5S simply are never available in the closest 10 stores or even several states (if you only have one store in your state, it lists neighboring ones).

Our local VZW stores have one demo model each. The next 5S phone to come in is only expected in 3 weeks, if you order today - for whatever that is worth, I take the sales person's words with a grain of salt, as I sensed a bit of a sales push to order now - but anyhow: they basically have none, anywhere. Unknown when they would have them in stock like a regular phone.

Interesting. So how does that work? You can buy one that isn't on a contract but is locked to Three?

our corporate purchasing agent is saying the exact opposite.
I can get a silver or gray in any capacity in under a week.
Gold says 3 weeks, but nobody here even wants one of those.
(seriously it looks like a Volvo 240)

This is all manufactured scarcity.

That's something I don't get... why cases? I never used a case on any of my iPhones, or right now on my HTC One, because they are such beautiful devices. Cases are just ugly.

If I need to put it in my bag or something I use a sleeve.

Interesting. So how does that work? You can buy one that isn't on a contract but is locked to Three?

All phones bought via Phones4U, CarphoneWarehouse or any carrier - basically anyone but Apple will lock to the network of the first sim inserted, whether contract or PAYG. Three allows you to unlock after one month - the others take longer. Virgin Mobile does not unlock iPhones, therefore do not stick one of those in first whatever you do.

Does anyone know how the situation is in New York? I'm headed there tomorrow and was thinking of picking one up..

you can buy them here, try monday or tuesday since there are no fedex or UPS deliveries tomorrow

Yeah, that wasn't easy. Empty all over. Does anyone from Canada know about supplies there, and if they have unlocked versions?

I'm not sure if you're still in NY, but I'm in the NYC & NYC metro area. I was looking to purchase one when it first came out, and like everyone else, I heard all the talk of everything being out of stock until more or less the holidays (my cousin tried ordering on on her carrier website on Thursday 10th...available to ship in 2 months. Seriously.) So knowing this I decided to hold off.

This past Friday, the 11th, I'm at work a bit later than usual, 6:45-7ish, and I start reading a few articles online about the iPhone's scarcity. I then see an article about an "iPhone locator" if you will, which lets you know which stores have which versions in stock to pickup. So just to pass the time, I look for a gold iPhone 16gb. And boom. There it was clear as day at a couple of Apple stores in the area. I was kinda stunned. So I jump on the Apple website immediately to verify this and there it was in stock. The thing was that I would refresh and it instantly knocked the stores back from 6 to 4. Then 4 to 2. I order as quick as I can online and make an order for pick up that same night. I walk into the store about an 1hr and half later. No lines, nothing. Show the Apple genius my printed sheet stating that my order was ready and the dude just looked at me as if I created it in Photoshop because there was no way it could have been real. He gets his manager and they go to the back and pick up my phone and case which I ordered.

As they ring my stuff up, I ask them why they are so surprised that someone actually found the 5s online. The manager looks at me, still a bit bewildered and states, "It's not that we're surprised you found one. We didn't even KNOW that we had one in this store." And just like that I got an iPhone in gold no less in about 2 hours from ordering one. I get the feeling from what the manager was saying, that the stores have no friggin clue what they get in the shipments Apple sends them. Apple sure as hell knows. And they're not telling. So please, check those availability sites or apps or whatever. They work! I hope this helped someone. Good luck guys.

Sorry about that repeat. Not sure why it posted twice.

I'm not in NY at the moment, but will be back again next weekend. Will check this out then!

Did you use the Apple Store App for this?

At the 5th ave. store they had loads of iPhone 5S boxes on display behind the counter, creating a false state of inventory in my view.

Thank you very much for the heads up!

I actually used the same locator in the article that I read on Friday.

http://iphone-check.herokuapp.com

Just look up the color you are interested in and the phone carrier on the drop down menu on the top of the page. That was it. It will either come up as a green check or a red X. The site does state that if you do happen to catch a green check on the phone you want, don't even waste your time racing to the store or calling. It'll be gone by then. Go directly to the Apple phone/store availability page and order!

I told a buddy of mine the same thing last night and he was skeptical...He's picking up his White/Silver iPhone this afternoon. Apparently, there were a couple of stores in the city, Westchester and NJ that had only the Silver in stock. I don't know how exactly Apple distributes the phone to stores but it seems really random. As for the 5th Ave store having a bunch of 5S boxes on display, it's probably just for show. The phone is the flagship now....Anyone can buy a Ferrari tshirt. You just don't see their Suzuki Samurai in the garage.

Thanks for that page! Quite a few Gold T-Mobile iPhones have showed up at the West Side store recently!

I´m still in Quebec though, and just managed to get my hands on a grey iPhone, unlocked. Currently restoring from iPhone 5! :D

Thank you very much for your help!
