who seriously cares if it's official or no. the general consensus (fandom, news, etc) is that it stands for Siri.. as that is it's stand out feature

Here's the direct quote from TC at the D10 conference:

The same goes for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. You don’t say you own a “MacBook Air 3.”

“You can stick with the name and people generally love that, or you can put a number at the end which denotes the generation,” said Cook. “And if you keep the same industrial design, as in the case of the 4S, some people might say it stands for Siri or speed. We were thinking of Siri when we did it. For the 3GS we were thinking of speed.”

So it was 3GSpeed and 4Siri. My bet would be on 5Security.

Of course, lots of products add an S when coming out with a subsequent model to follow up last years, or to indicate a better performing product...

Examples:

Taylormade R11S driver
Porche Cayenne S
Acura RSX/TL type S

Or, we could go with Sophisticated.

Either way, I love this phone. I do wish the fingerprint sensor was a bit more reliable though...

You and people like you really look dumb making these types of statements. 5s is as different from the 5 as it is from the 4s, 4, 3gs, 3g and original.

The chassi is the only thing that is the same, the rest of the phone is a completely new phone. However keep telling yourself it's no different, maybe you and your buds will start to believe it.
