iPhone 5S vs 6 panorama megapixels

so both models are 8MP shooters, and yet the iPhone 6 does up to 43MP for panoramas and the 5S only does 28MP. What accounts for the difference here? Is it because the iPhone 6 can take wider ones than he 5S can?
