Hi - I have three lightning chargers which work with my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 6S... but when I plug one into my 5S it won't fit. What should I do? Thanks.

The Lightning charger doesn't fit into the charging port in the phone? Or it doesn't charge the phone once it's plugged in (as the thread title suggests)?

Are these Apple cables?

The cables are Apple cables, yes. the lightning cable doesn't fit into the port on the 5S but does on my iPad Air 2 and my 6S Plus.

Have any cables fit into that phone or has it never been charged at all? And does the connector simply not go in at all or just doesn't go in all the way (or is loose)?

I've used the cables in the past to charge it and it almost goes in. It's not loose. I wonder why the cables work on my other devices?

It almost goes in and it's not loose. The cables have worked in the past on the iPhone.

Perhaps there's something in the charging port, like some lint or something like that? You can try blowing it out with compressed air and/or carefully using a toothpick to see if anything might be stuck or gathered inside.

What should I do failing that? Maybe your right. :)

Failing that perhaps take it to Apple to have them look at it since it sounds like you tried a few different cables already and there's not that much more I can think of aside from that or trying to make sure the port is clean/clear of anything.

The phone is just under six months out of warranty. I'll get my dad to check it tomorrow. :)

I had the same problem with my 5...Get a plastic toothpick and clean the lint out of the charge port, as C DM said. If you have never cleaned it, you won't believe how much lint is in it. Any loose lint that is in the port when you plug in gets compressed all the way to the back, until the plug finally won't mate up correctly.

My dad says there's nothing in there. =[

What should I do now?

Thanks for the reply, there is nothing in the socket blocking access, that I can see anyway.

What should I do now? Why do the cables work with my iPhone 6S Plus and my Air 2?

I bought an used iPhone 4 recently and had the same problem. Getting it to charge was an extensive exercise is plugging/unplugging, pushing, shifting and frustration. The amount of compressed gunk I dug out of the charging port was astounding. Maybe that's why the original owner ended up selling it in the first place.
