Okay I'm one of those people who still uses iOS 10 on my iPhone 6 as I have heard too many horror stories about battery drain etc. on iOS 11. Since iOS 12 is now out, could those of you who own iPhone 6 (not iPhone 6S) and have installed iOS 12 comment how the phone is running? Is to worth to upgrade? Have you noticed any bugs or issues and most of all how's the battery life?

I checked that thread but it had like only two brief comments about iPhone 6 running iOS 12. So that's not a lot to go with. A lot of people here keep talking about 6S or 6 Plus, which both might run very differently on iOS 12 when compared to iPhone 6. Hence I created this thread trying to get more feedback on iPhone 6 in particular running iOS 12.

I have the iPhone 6, keep it on iOS 10.

I can't speak for the 6, but my dad inherited my old 5S and i put iOS 12 on it for him. It's running great, and I'm comparing that to my current iPhone X. Definitely better than iOS 10.

My wife and I have the iPhone 6 and 6 plus. Would like to install IOS 12 but I waiting to see if any problems arise before I make the plunge. Wonder if anyone has done it and if it improved performance. My wife 6 plus has been freezing up lately hope this might fix it.

Joe

Hey Joe,

I installed iOS 12 two days ago in my 128GB 6+. I skipped iOS 11 because of all the issues folks seemed to be having.

So far, so good - apps launch faster, Apple Pay works, Touch ID unlock works mush faster, WIFI and LTE connections seem good. The only problem I've found so far seems to be related to an app that needs a tweak for iOS 12. The overall interface has changed for me a little from iOS 10 but nothing spectacularly different.

I also had some weird intermittent issues that required restarting my phone. Apple suggested that I backup my phone and do a Reset to try to fix it. If that didn't work they thought that the next step was to reinstall the OS. You could back up one of your phones and try installing iOS 12. If it doesn't work for you then you could then restore it back to where you were. My issues haven't shown up since I installed iOS 12 - but it's only been a couple of days.

Thanks that is very encouraging. I have two iPhone 6's and iPad air to update.

How about Siri? iOS11 killed Siri on my iPhone6. On 10.3.3, I could hold the home button down and immediately start talking. On iOS11, It takes between 0.5 to 2 seconds after I press/hold the home button before Siri is ready to listen. I'm always getting the beginning of my Siri command cut off.

Very annoying.

Sorry, I don't use Siri so can't offer any info.

Why would you miss out on new features and improved security (amongst other reasons) because of slightly poorer battery issues? I just plug my 6S in a bit extra, top up the old battery and voila, happy days. iOS 12 is working out great for me. It’s also good on my iPad Air too.

Assuming it's all just in the realm of "slightly".

Took my iPhone 6 from 10.3.3 to 12.0. Love the faster Safari scrolling (compared to 10.3.3). Haven't seen any degradation in performance or battery life, but my usage is mainly Safari and text and a little mail, camera, and Sudoku.

Do you use Siri? Does Siri respond instantly when you press/hold the home button? Or does it take a few seconds before you can speak? Thanks

iPhone 6 here as well. How is the ram management on iOS 12 compared to 10?
Still on 10 now, but the brief time I was on 11 I had the following : playing a song in music in the morning, by evening the music player opens up "blank".
So it does not remember song or playlist. In 10, it still remembers. Found this so annoying, that I returned to 10.

Anyone that has seen this as well and can comment on how this is on 12?
Thanks.

iPhone 6 and iPad 5th gen here. iOS 12 is working fine on both. Not noticing a difference from 11 with battery drain. Touch ID and Apple Pay working fine. It might be working a touch faster but definitely not slower. Siri still sucks but that’s Siri for you.

I installed 12 on my iPhone 6. So far so good, no problem. Disappointed that measure and emoji do work with the 6 did see that mentioned anywhere. I will do my wife's 6 plus today. Her's has been freezing up a lot lately. Maybe 12 will fix that. Was at apple last night looking at a new phone for her.

If you're already on iOS 11, upgrade to 12.0 as you'll see some improvement, if you're on iOS 10, keep it that way until your favorite apps stop supporting iOS 10 (iOS 10 is definitely faster than iOS 12)

According to forum members reports, I am getting three more hours (on an 8-9 hour battery life) on iOS 9 on my 6s compared to iOS 11. I would not consider that "slightly poorer".

iPhone 6 Plus runs real good on iOS 12.
It had developed a freezing problem on 11.*.* thought it developed "touch disease".
But has not froze on 12 yet. The only setting I turned off was push. I fetch email automatically.

I noticed a definite overall system responsiveness and increased speed and better battery savings going from iOS 11 > 12. Well worth the update on my iPhone 6 Plus.

We all have our own idea of what instantly means. I long-press the Home button, the sound-like wave appears quickly at the bottom, and I start talking. I never think that I'm having to wait. Works fine for me (iPhone 6 on iOS 12).

Same here with my wife's 6plus. It was freezing all the time. Almost bought and 8 plus on Friday. Upgraded her phone Friday night and so far so good has not froze yet.

Sounds like software wise iOS 12 is pretty good upgrade. Those of you who have now been using iPhone 6 with iOS 12 for almost a week, how's the battery life? Same or better or worse? The reason I skipped iOS 11 on my iPhone 6 was the comments that said it totally ruined the battery life. Has that been fixed in iOS 12?
