I think that we, the MacRumors 'just a little bit obsessed with our iPhones' crowd can all agree that the current screen protector offerings for the iPhone 6/6 Pus pretty much suck. Seems like there's enough people here of varying skill with varying resources that we could/should start a kickstarter to actually produce a screen protector that the 6/6 Plus deserves. The current offerings have one or more of the following: a) edge lift b) imprecise cutouts for home button, speaker c) claim to offer edge to edge but are actually just facades with crappy paint jobs d) are so thin that they break when bending so slightly e) are too thick that the home button feels like it's twice as far down f) have poor installation instructions/require a dust-free environment and exact fitment And they're all overpriced. And the 'lifetime warranty' claims often involve you, the user, coughing up more money. We can do better. What we'd need: a) a random selection of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus's (say, 10 of each) b) access to a 3D scanner c) access to a 3D printer d) access to a glass blowing or glass shaping workshop (there's plenty in the bay area) e) access to a laser cutter f) access to CAD/CAM software g) access to non-toxic adhesives (although static applications work) h) enough cash to build ~1000 prototypes to test We already know edge to edge just isn't going to happen. There's too much variance in the surface of the iPhone 6/6 Plus and there will be too much variance in the screen protectors. The current edge to edge protectors are basically filling the gaps with adhesives but are very likely just acquiring dust. A better screen protector: a) is easy to install (i.e. for a 'normal' person who isn't obsessed with their phone) b) has zero (as in ZERO) edge lift c) has no distortion/visible adhesive around the edges d) has close to 100% clarity e) can be removed and reapplied (for real... not the remove, collect dust, can't remove dust, throw away) f) has a lifetime warranty (costing the consumer ZERO dollars for a replacement as long as they send the original back) g) works with most major cases/covers h) retails for $15 or less So... who's in?
