Before you say it, this is not a complaint - I'm simply wondering if anything is wrong with mine.

The outer rim of the home button feels very sharp and seems to protrude much more than my first 6. Has anyone else experienced this, and can it be filed down?

First iPhone so can't compare. But, Home Button is recessed compared to bezel. Not flush. So, I feel the edges. But, they are not sharp to me.

My launch day 6 was smooth. Just had my screen replaced and I can slightly feel the home button ring. The button has a louder sharp click as well.

Why is it so hard for them to be consistent with this?
It's a mass produced item, of course there will be slight differences between various units, and in some cases larger differences (as in even defects). It's like that with pretty much any other mass produced product.

Yeah, sucks - now my home button is great and my headphone jack is grate. :p

I had an iPhone 6 that just got replaced by Apple with a new iPhone 6 and the home button ring is definitely much sharper than it was before. Maybe there's a second batch of the iPhone 6 that had some updates?

More like various units aren't exactly the same as various others basically.

I see. IS there a way to find out if there was an updated iphone 6 that's any different the the ones that were originally released? Doesn't apple sometimes tweak components inside, etc.? How can you find out?
