I use a case like this:

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MKXW2ZM/A/iphone-6-6s-leather-case-black

I've dropped the phone on the ground and it has always survived, not without a few scratches and dents on the bottom part of the phone with the lightning connector because it is uncovered and exposed.
Aside from 'trying not to drop it', do others use or do something to protect the exposed bottom area of the iPhone using that case? (The case design is the same across all iPhone 6 and above)

I've used the Apple leather on my 6 Plus for the past three years and the only damage I have on the phone is a tiny (less than half a millimeter long) scratch on the plastic that's between the glass and metal on the bottom of the phone. I would say that that part of the phone probably needs the least protection.

No, most use the case as is - including myself. If you want to more thoroughly protect the bottom of the device, then this case isn't for you.

In theory the leather sides should help mitigate any damage from a drop and be the first point of impact.

I'm pretty clumsy and the case has worked well.

Well... I'm gonna troll and then legit answer the question. Dang girl, you like to start tons o' threads...

Aaand imma answer anyway... I've had apple leather cases for years and while I didn't used to drop my phone, the past year or two have seen a big increase...

I have dropped my leather case 6s Plus a ton on concrete, pavement, rocks, at the airport and elsewhere. Every time I thought I would have a big mark across the bottom, crack the screen or bust up a corner. And every time the case took the damage. I actually had to stop using my favorite one cause the bottom corner(by the speaker grill) took so many hits it started to crack off and would no longer provide the necessary protection. The phone made it unscathed though so the case did it's job.

Was some of it luck? Surely, but the amount of times that i would have sworn the bottom of the phone would be damaged after a drop, the case protected it. It's not an otter case, but for something sleek and minimal, the leather case has served me well.
