B+O are exceptional, high end. Bose is just marketing. They are so afraid of Beats that they banned NFL players from wearing them during games. It's one marketing giant vs another. How many Senny or Audio Technica ads do you see on TV?

As for earPods, I'd rather use Beats. I rate them that badly, except Beats are closed headphones that sound bassy while earPods barely fit in my ear and leak sound. Any decent IEM will beat the earPods, trust me. Pick up a pair of Sennheiser CX300II's or 180's and you'll see the difference. Just the provided tips will do wonders compared to the non-adjustable earPods.

Bang and Olafsen does high end products but their actual tech is not that high end. Not sure where that's coming from but I would buy BOSE before B&O any day of the week.

Bang for buck? Soundmagic earbuds best the Apple and very good isolating outside noise as well.

Listening on Sennheiser Over-Ear Momentum's, sounds good on iPhone 6, 6 Plus and Air 2, don't hear any difference.

However, one has to say that for really high-end headphones with high impedence, you can't really push them to their limits using a mobile device.

Undeniably the standard earPods from Apple and high quality music (itunes, spotify etc) give you a great experience out of the box. The earPods easily beat the crap out of most headphones in the 80-100 dollar range. I have showed people that had high quality headphones the EarPods and they couldn't believe how good they were. I than listened to their expensive headphones and had to stop after 5 secs since they literally felt like 5$ headphones from china. Give the EarPods a try they are incredible, especially with good quality music. They are also the most comfortable in-ear headphones I ever had.
Obviously if you are super audiophile than you would need headphones in the 300-600€ range where BOSE is hard to beat.

Earpods are cheap garbage, and sound like it. And Bose?? Seriously- they are poor.

I also recommend RHA, I have the 600i and they are excellent.

While the RHA 600i, 750 and others are good, their T10i sound absolutely dreadful..Bass monsters with cheap and badly tuned drivers - a pity because they look nice. I wouldn't buy anything from this company ever again, also a pity because I am Scottish too.

Lol you have no clue me thinks, I can see that Scottishness in your response tho. Again I know a lot of audiophiles that say the EarPods are very very good but I guess I take you for authority in the future. My bad

Why would you want to listen to 99 cent EarPods? Mine went straight in the bin after one listen (iPod Nano and iPhone 5).

I have Westone 4s and other high-end iems by Sennheiser and Earsonics. I do tend to spend around £400 for a decent set of iems. Around the same cost as whichever phone I'm using.

Did you try them with the treble filters? Several reviews I've seen say that helps a LOT. I've been hoping it's true, because I've been considering these. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I never said that the EarPods can compete with 400-500£ products. I said that they can easily compete with 100£ dollar headphones. Spending 400£ on headphones is crazy too me and I'm probably not that great of an audiophile to even benefit of it. However I have listened to a bunch of zenheiser and other headphones in the 50-100£ range and the EarPods made them sound like crap. Again all I am saying is that EarPods are very good headphones and can easily compete with products twice the cost. They are surely not bin material like you mentioned.

Yes, every filter and different tips tried - the bass is just overwhelming, wooly and slow. Very disappointing product.

They're crap - not worth a fiver, not even worth anything at all. :)

Anyone else use their iPhone with high quality headphones and music? I'm wondering how good are the iPhone 6 - 6+ components to listen to good quality music on the road.

So far I've paired my phone with a couple Sennheiser headphones and it sounds pretty great but definitely not Hi Fi... Would other non-apple phones have better sound?

You might want to consider an amplifier. I think someone already mentioned the Fiio x7. I just picked up a Meridian Explorer2 DAC I'm looking forward to trying.

I have a pair of Westone W40s and a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880s, the latter of which is the low impedance (I want to say like 18 ohms) version; both sound very good from my iPhone 6 (using either the Beats or Spotify apps at high quality streaming) and MacBook. They seem to be driven well, though I'm interested to see how the DAC will improve the sound (if at all). I'll also note I was playing with the W40s last night and tried out a different, smaller set of tips, and that made a huge and better difference. I'd been using large ones to create the seal I've read so much about, and even had some triple-flange Shure tips that seated really deeply within my ear canal, but the shorter tips made a great difference for me. So definitely experiment with fit.

I got the Beyers from a local audio boutique and had a chance to listen to a bunch of others . . . Audeze, Grado, more Sennheisers, a couple of others whose names I don't recall. I fell utterly and completely in love with a pair of Sennheiser HD800s powered by the complementary amp -- into which I plugged my iPhone and played Spotify tracks. It was jaw dropping.

Of course, both would have cost like $3600 together.

The Beyers cost less than 10% of that but sounded, to me, better than the HD600/650s also within budget. This was purely taste; the latter sounded more analytical and neutral, while the Beyers sounded more dynamic. It was basically, if I wanted to analyze the music, I'd go with the HD650, but if I just wanted to sit back and enjoy it, I wanted the Beyers. Plus I already have a pair of HD598s, which some might posit as splitting the difference.

I think if you're looking for a different device, you might just want a complementary player, rather than a different phone. The Fiio X1 is supposed to be awesome, and it's only $99.

Yeah I use the JDS Labs 02 amp with my HD 650's.

Whenever I'm on the road I can't afford open back because I ride the metro and wouldn't want to bother anyone at work and what not. I use the Sennheiser Momentum paired up with Tidal on my iPhone.

Tidal is a music streaming like Spotify but it streams lossless files at 1400kpbs. When compared to Spotify's MP3's at 320 kbps, the difference is tremendous.

Nice set up. I bet that drives the 650s well. What kind of phone are you using, if not a 6/6+?

I literally just opened a Tidal account last night. Looking forward to exploring it. So thanks for the heads up! I've heard good things about Deezer, too. I'm going to have to cancel something; I had Beats and Spotify already. I was hoping Apple's going to announce something for Beats that would allow me to cancel Spotify. We'll see. Definitely can't be spending $40 per month on music services, though.

Fell in love with the Meridian almost out of the box. I say "almost" because although listening is fantastic, I'd hoped I'd be able to use it with my phone, as well, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Unfortunate.

Do you use other iPhone apps? I've heard good things about CanOpener and Audyssey. I think they're both players and haven't played with either much, though. Might be worth looking into.

Not sure how it could be considered a high-quality music player or any iOS 8 device for that matter.

skipping galore while doing other things.

The DAC does sound capable to my ears, though that software issue aside.

You have to go with Sony Walkman for high fidelity music player.

All i can say about Iphone 6 is that sound quality is better than 4s. Maybe on par with 5s. I use Yuin PK 2 and it sound better on the 6.

One thing that bugs me about Apple is They don't give us a graphic or parametric EQ in iTunes. It would make most any pods sound decent. We get "presets". I know there are apps for that, but cmon Apple.

The factory EarPods work in a pinch with decent sound :/ I bought some $130 Bose (sport type) that sit in the ear, but don't cancel noise (my preference) and the sound stage is wide and full. They sound great. They are comfortable for any length of time, and you can't even tell they are in.

If you don't like Bose, that's great. I do.

Stop being so elitist. The EarPods are excellent even for double their price and audiophiles almost unanimously agree. I'd rather have the comfortable EarPods over taking out a second mortgage for those massively uncomfortable things you posted a picture of.

If you read my post, those iems that I pictured are also crap, not quite as bad as the 99 cent EarPods but very close.

Audiophiles aren't listening to EarPods, that I can guarantee.

True "audiophiles" aren't brand nitpicking either. Stop being elitist. The EarPods are easily better than any sub-100 dollar Sennheisers.

I have a pair of these

I just came back from the Sony Xperia Z3v to the iPhone 6 plus and the sound difference was astonishing!

I've got the Xperia Z3 Compact and I'd be astonished if it sounded any different than an iPhone 6 plus.

They both measure around the same.

No, they really aren't. They're 99 cent junk.

I loved the phone don't get me wrong, I just prefer iOS but I believe it was the noise levels on the phone rather than the audio quality.

In your valuable opinion.

For sound quality I suggest A-Jays Four, Creative Aurvana in-ear 2 and in-ear 3, Yamaha EPH-100.

As for big headphones Creative Aurvana Live, B&O BeoPlay H6.

iPhone 6 is great music player. But most important is one thing. Quality of your music files.
