I have read the Bluetooth car issues and used the "reset all settings" and re-pairing and this has fixed my Bluetooth issues (so far). But I have tried everything to get my 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport to play iPhone 6 music through the iPod/USB and no luck. The iPhone is recognized as connected to USB but the music won't play. AppleCare says my audio system needs a firmware update. Maybe. My iPhone 5 was working fine. Anyone else have the issue and found a solution?

Did you update your 5 to iOS 8? If so, did it work?

I had to unplug and replug my car stereo's lightning connector after updating my 5 to iOS 8. It took multiple times before it finally registered and started working again.

When I upgraded to iOS 7, I had to go to the stereo place that installed my stereo's iPhone adapter and get the firmware upgraded too, it only cost $20 and took about 20 minutes, but I was happy not to have to bother with it again.

BTW, the stereo's iPhone adapter was added in 2010, and iOS 7 was the first time it needed a firmware update.

I don't think I used the 5 on USB after installing iOS 8. I only had it for a short time after updating before I got the 6 on Friday. I just tried my iPad mini, which I also updated to iOS 8, and it is having the same problem as my iPhone 6. I may have to ask my girlfriend if I can try my old iPhone 5 with iOS 8 on my car's USB just to see what happens.
I have emailed Mitsubishi about the issue also. I guess that the world will not come to a screeching halt if I have to use only Bluetooth in my car but my audio system does not allow me to switch playlists on the car display with Bluetooth. Voice control of audio is also not offered on Bluetooth.

Yeah, I would definitely try with something else running 8, just to test. And be patient, trying a few times before giving up.

Then proceed to the firmware update.

Cable?

I just found my new iPhone 6 (which I bought specifically to have more storage for music) didn't register at all on my car stereo via USB. After a bit of rummaging around online, I discovered that 3rd party Lightning cables may not work.

I bought a Belkin cable a while ago as it was more sturdy than the Apple one that had recently melted in my car. Turns out this was the issue. I took my Apple Lightning cable out and voila! Music!!

If you're using any third-party cables or adaptors, see if you can test the official Apple one. Might fix it for you. :)

I have an iPhone 5 still. Before I upgraded to iOS8. The USB Audio and iPod controls worked no problem with my vehicle (a 2013 Dodge Charger, which worked with iOS6 & 7 w/out any issues). I upgraded to iOS8 and now I can't do anything via USB with my Radio and my iPhone. Just to make sure my Radio still worked fine, I plugged in an iPhone 5 that I have not upgraded to iOS8 yet, guess what, it worked.

From what I have been reading and been a part of in the APPLE forums, this is happening on a lot of different vehicle manufactures, from Mercedes Benz to Ford.

Also, the cable I use in my iPhone 5 is the cable that came with it in the box.

I read somewhere the new update locks out the ability to use non-Apple cables. That was certainly the case for me.
Have you tried the cable that came with your phone?

The iPhone 6 cable does not work nor does my iPhone 5 cable. The iOS 8.0.2 update didn't help either.

I have a Bluetooth deck and my Plus connects just as well as my 5 did for calls, streaming music and charging/ playing via the USB cable. Sorry that doesn't help much, hope you figure it out!

I am using the original cable that came with my iPhone. Still nothing. If I reset all the settings on the phone, it works that time, but when I unplug and plug it back in, it stops working again. I take another 5 with iOS 7 on it and it works flawlessly. No problems

My iPhone6 cable does not work either. Sometimes the USB connects, and sometimes it doesn't. I have IOS 8.0.2. Tried my wife's iPhone 5 with IOS 8.0.2 and hers does not consistently connect via lightning/USB either. I called AppleCare and they said the problem has to be fixed by the car dealer.

I have a 4S and upgraded to 8.0.2. It works fine with my old fashioned, non-lightning USB connection to the car stereo.
