But if they don't do they are slowly sliding into oblivion don't you think?

Redesigning something simply for the sake of changing its aesthetics has nothing to do with good design.

Now if it's needed to add more functionality, then that is different. Otherwise the design is simply being driven by fashion and, inadvertently, contributing to planned obsolescence.

I think the current design of the iPhone 5 is simply stunning. No other phone comes even close to it.

Not a fan of these mockups. I'm a huge fan of the size and design of the iPhone 5.

I'd really like the new design be more rounded like the iPod touch/iPad mini. If they could make the screen bigger and have it come all the way to the edge on the sides with a 4.5 to 5 inch screen I would be all about it. I mean I like the 5 ok but the screen is still small.

Other wireless phone mfg's do in fact come up with numerous designs, some a the carrier's request, some based on market demands and some simply to cover every conceivable design and consumer choice. You see that is why Android does so well compared to Apple, Android offers choice so you can find the one that meets your needs.

Me I don't care, I change my phone so often it practically new.
