My iPhone 6 was charging and it just died wouldn't turn on or anything I opened it and it smelled a bit weird but I'm not sure if it was the battery or the logic board. I took out the battery to make sure nothing else would happen.

If the battery wasn't swollen or appears normal, it could have been the logic board being the iPhone just randomly shut off. Otherwise, if the battery was getting hot, it could have been an emanating an odor.

Not sure it's a bad odor. Only confined in the phone. Battery seemed fine. Wasn't sure if it was a leak or logic board. If it was the logic board I'll just buy a new one with a new fingerprint sensor. Friend needs a phone. Like bad he has an old android that dies within 3 hours. But has an iPad Air 2 and iPod touch 5. But he said he'd buy it from me.

Just remembered the iPhone was charging right before it turned off but it wasn't warm at all before it died. And it usually gets warm while it charges
