Naked with AC+ (buy with AMEX for extra protection if you want).

IF I damage it, drop it, go swimming with it, whatever... $79 and it's cosmetically new again (twice even!).

In the meantime I get to enjoy the phone exactly as Apple intended. There's a reason Apple doesn't sell "Apple Screen Protectors". I actually like the leather cases, but still prefer going naked anyway.

Nothing better than that finely crafted device in your hands with no plastic inbetween the glass and aluminum...

I'll NEVER go back (and everyone that has gone naked that I know of won't either...). If a teeny tiny bit of cosmetic damage bothers you, then fine, but every phone I have sold/traded has passed for "excellent" condition, tiny scratches and all :p

----------

And that right there is the problem. Going naked is NOT about being able to do so and keep your device "flawless". I fully expect that a device I use naked for a full year will have SOME sign of use.

The great part is, when I go to sell/trade it, I STILL get as much money as a "flawless" unit (when you factor in the cost of the case/protectors). Next time you go to a trade site, check out the $$$ difference between "flawless" and "excellent". It's literally $10-20 usually, the most I've ever seen was $35.

What else costs $10-35? A CASE.

Just go naked :D

Not true in the least. I have always had cases with my phones of one sort or another. Here in the UK the difference between the top "A" grade and the one below which is "B" grade is far bigger then the cost of a case. If I didn't have a case that typically costs me around £10 to £15 then I would end up getting a lot less money due to scratches and scuffs. I end up getting more money because I always get the "A" grade price.

Actually, I used my 5s for a year without a case. It had small scratches on the back and a few small dings on the chamfered edges, but nothing major. The day before I traded it in for an iPhone 6, my wife accidentally knocked it out of my hand onto tile and put a decent dent on the upper corner of the metal. I was quite upset considering. Anyway, the next day when I went to trade it in, the guy at the Apple Store commented on what great shape it was in and gave me the standard price for a working iPhone 5s. I would have gotten the same if it was all scratched up or mint, as long as it worked without a cracked screen, bent, etc.
I do have the silicone case on my 6 now, but it's just a matter of days or hours before it will be removed forever.

What model was it and how much did you get for it?

I have always had my iPhone's naked and never worried about the cosmetic scratches that happen. That said the iPhone 6's rounded corners and extra smooth surface have persuaded me to try sticker wraps for some extra grip.

all those going completely naked will be back in less than a week with a post asking whether or not they can add applecare+ to their busted-up phone ;)

I had to put something on mine but wanted to let my gold color show. I did the ghost armor then I did the unthinkable.. I dropped it and shattered the screen.

So on my replacement, I replaced the armor coating and ordered a clear bumper. But I promise I soooo don't want to use it. I'm thinking of maybe taking a screen protector to maybe put on there to..idk

iPhone 6 going all out naked

Having this debate with myself everyday. I use cases for a while then the newness wears off...I actually like using the apple leather case but every time I take it off these curved edges feel so good. The cosmetic scratches won't bother me. My 5 was all beat up. I call them war wounds. If the 6 wasn't so slippery.....I would hate to have this $45 case just sitting in a drawer after a while. Ugh what to do, what to do?

To be honest, I didn't even realize screen protectors were still a thing until I started reading this forum recently. Back in the days when I used PDAs, screen protectors made some sense since the screens were made of relatively soft materials and you wrote on them with a stylus -- all it took was a piece of grit or something on your screen and you had a scratch. What is it that people are doing to scratch up their screens? I could see it happening in a drop, but in regular careful use?

I've never used a case or protector on any of my iPhones (2G, 3Gs, 4, 4S, 5, 6 Plus) and never had a scratch or a break. Sure, luck has something to do with that, but I'm also careful. The phone only goes in my front pocket with nothing else and with the glass facing my leg. I never set it screen-down. I suppose there may have been some small scratches of the type that you really have to look for, but I never noticed any and so far my Plus is perfect.

Same story here, bro. I think I'm going to sell my leather case, I love the color and contrast with my silver 6 but just too dark and black in low light/night. I also love how the naked phone feels when I take the case off :p.

IMO a case is a must with the iPhone 6 because of the camera lens that sticks out. Without a case this lens will get scratched in no time.

It is just nearly always too slippery without a case, at least the 6+ is.

I hate having to use a case but there is really not a good way to use the phone otherwise.

I witnessed a naked 6 fall about 2 feet from a purse and crack the screen over the weekend. It landed on a vertical edge.

I would be careful. I don't think the 6 is as durable as the 5 or 5s.

I agree with you and think the same thing. I think the 6/6+'s shape or perhaps the grade of aluminum is making screens very easy to crack.

Curious which ones you went with and what your thoughts are using them? I am thinking of doing the same exact thing.

The lens is protected with a Sapphire cover. It isn't going to scratch easily. I wouldn't even worry about that.

Just took my case off today, still rocking a screen protector but God it feels great!

Amen to that!

OP, if you get the apple care plan, even if you do drop it, and it should break, you should be fine. I don't like screen protectors or cases, and I agree with your efforts. just have good insurance lol

Never used either for any of my iphones. Ive even dropped my iPhone 5 numerous times, and while there are a few dings on the edges, the screen is completely flawless :D No drops with my 5S, none with my 6+ so far either.

No concerns over it.

I tried using my 4.7" 6 naked, but it's just way too slippery and I can't use it one-handed without constantly dropping it (fortunately it only fell into my lap the times I dropped). I don't really like the feel of it naked either. Got a Spigen Thin Fit Smooth Black, which is a very thin case that leaves a lot exposed (top, bottom, buttons) but has good grip, and it's so much better than naked. I also tried a bulkier case and it's just not usable one-handed. I generally use cases more for grip than protection (and better grip means I drop it less), but a little protection is nice, too.

I refuse to use a screen protector. I've only once damaged iPhone glass and it was the slightest ding on my 4S near the home button, not even on the display itself, when I dropped it on concrete -- can't even see it unless you are really looking for it. I'll take my chances and pay the AC+ $79 if my glass gets cracked.

never was a fan of cases, and none of my phones ever had one.
BUT i'm considering buying one for the 6 because i feel like it's easier for it to slip outta my hands

yeah, me too, I have NEVER had a case before, but the iphone 6 seems to slip out of my hand alot especially when I am using my thumb to reach for the top row. I absolutely DO NOT want a case, but this phone is so damn slippery it seems like it is forcing me into a leather or silicone case to stop it from slipping out of my hand.

Everybody says that the iPhone 6/6+ is too slippery to use without a case (and to be fair, the design IS a bit harder to hold onto because of the rounded edges). But I think people are being too quick to jump to the conclusion that you have to use a case. After a day or two, I've found it to be very manageable. The aluminum back seems noticeably less slick now, and I'm more used to the shape, so it's really not any worse than other phones for me. Of course it's going to seem hard to hold onto when you first start using it, since you're not used it.

Going naked is great, but with the 6, I'm going the PowerSupport combo. Anti-glare and AirJacket Clear Matte... looks sexy on a Space Gray and still protected. I'd say thats a good 'minimalist' protection package haha
