Hi
I have an iphone6+ with ios 11.3 new battery and now also new charging port.
last week i began to charge my phone and noticed the charge was decreasing but indicated it was charging,, i tried a different cord and usb and same thing. i took it to my local iphone repair where they had already replaced the battery and they exchanged the battery and replaced the charge port, and i left thinking it was fixed. i get home put it on usual charger and see its indicating charge again but level is decreasing.
i then take to apple store a tech runs tests and says everything checks out. and it charges there.
i get home and still doesn't charge......EXCEPT on an apple charge cord!!!
i have about 8 different firewire charge cords braided and good quality that have ALL been working with zero problems until sat of last week. some of these 3rd party cords indicate charge but dont and others don't do anything.
now, my phone will only charge on an apple cord... why?
i understand the apple corporate policy it it has to be an apple cord, but logically it does not make sense that they all stopped working...i did not do an ios update or anything...

Because some third party cables might not be passing the correct voltage and it can happen over time. If you want to use non Apple charging cables then I recommend Anker or amazon basic. They’re all MFI certified and much cheaper than official Apple cables and they will work for sure.

Ps. This has got nothing to do with corporate policy.

So I’m to believe 8 third party (good quality) FireWire cables, bought over the last 4 years... all stopped providing proper voltage on the SAME day??

I don’t buy that. Doesn’t follow logic at all.
No other possible ideas?

Upon checking most of the cables are MFI certified AND stopped working at the same time

It's not a FireWire cable.
My advice is to always use an Apple charger (5watt or 12 watt iPad charger) and avoid cheap 3rd party cables. Avoid eBay. I've had very good luck with Paracable lightning cords. But to rule things out, buy a brand new Apple charger and Apple cable. If it works- the problem is with your aftermarket gear.
The cables have a microchip inside them that talks to the phone.

You’re right, I was using wrong name.
And I appreciate your post, but that still does not answer why my cables 5 of them, worked for years and all stopped at the same time.

If it charges normally using an Apple charging cable there’s only one conclusion to come to. All your cables failed for similar or different reasons. If you need evidence, hire an electrical engineer to dissect each cable and give you the reasons for failure. Most people would just say they’re broken and move on. If your trying to say Apple somehow made your phone only work with their cables suddenly after they worked for 5 years using 3rd party cables I’d say your grasping for straws...

That conclusion seems just as illogical as believing 6 3rd party MFI cables failed at once. ‍♂️

Then what’s your theory? You ask for opinions and then when you don’t like what you hear you say it’s illogical. I doubt anyone on this forum is going to give you a different view. If no cables would charge your phone it would be one thing but, an Apple cable charges it normally and Apple said your phone is operating normally what’s your conclusion? Have you tried your 3rd party cables on a different Apple device?

Ok, I will assume all 6 3rd party cables failed at the same time only on my iPhone.
Yes, the 3rd party cables all still charge my girlfriends and sons iPhone 5s and my iPad with no problems.
Thank you for the insight....

Ok, so they charge other Apple devices that’s a good sign. I would inspect your charging port on your phone and see if it has lint or debris in there. A toothpick is a safe way to clean it. If that doesn’t work, maybe the brick your plugged into may have something going on with it.

It has a new charging port, I’ve tried charging from USB ports in car, computer and wall outlets and Apple usb blocks....

This is a very interesting situation. I’m lost to be honest. But would like to know what’s going on there as well.
