Has anyone else noticed muffled call quality coming from the earpiece of their iPhone 6 Plus? Also, I've got to hold the phone in just the right spot to hear the caller, and even then it's a bit garbled.

You have peeled the protector off?

Haven't you...?

yes, same thing but not garbled just very soft

I just started getting the problem too - My friend called me to complain about the issue, then he noticed it was happening with me too - he had the issue with his girlfriend, who also got the 6 plus. He has a 5S if that matters.

There is a setting to reduce ambient noise during calls, and I turned mine off. Some calls seemed a little muted/muffled, but it's all good now. Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, and then scroll down to Phone Noise Cancellation. If it's on, turn it off and see if your call clarity is better.

P.S. I have an iPhone 6, not the Plus, but it's likely the same system.

This has become the biggest issue I have with this phone after using it for a few days. Sound quality during calls is bad, with a sort of underwater low frequency aspect to the sound. We did some comparisons to other phones calling the same number from the same place and they have a much clearer treble aspect and it's easier to make out the voice.

The spearkerphone quality is ok, it's only the earpiece that has issues.

I have a call scheduled with Apple tomorrow about this issue. The sound isn't muffled but I struggle to hear it. My iPhone 5s had much louder earpiece sound. Most reviews I've read say how loud the earpiece is, so mine must be defective because I can barely hear it :(

Please keep us posted. Hopefully it's a defect and they'll give you a new phone for free. I actually make calls on my phone and a clear loud earpiece is important.

I am having the same issue. I find myself constantly trying to increase the volume during a call, and pressing the phone tight against my ear. The earpiece sounds very soft.

Just got new IP6, same problem

Just posted above about same problem and Apple replaced my phone yesterday.

Had my phone call with Apple yesterday. Have to say, I'm a little bit disappointed by their response.

It has been determined that there is a hardware problem, but some of the solutions offered were a bit crappy...

Solutions...

1) Return my phone and a replacement will be sent within 5-6 working days.

2) They send a new phone out next day (Express Service), but they put a hold on my Credit Card for £700 to ensure they get the other phone back (fair enough) but charge £29.99 (which I won't get back) for the Express Service part. £29.99 to get a working phone when the phone they've supplied is defective seems a little unfair.

I'm surprised Apple don't offer door step exchanges - that would be so good.

3) The option I chose. Go to the Apple Store (which I can't do until Saturday 4 October - appointment made). The problem with this is, the Apple guy on the phone was ambiguous about whether the phone would be repaired or replaced.

I will not be accepting a repair on a phone that will only be 2 weeks old at time of the Genius Bar appointment. If they insist on a repair, I'll be insisting on a full refund. In the UK, under the Sales of Goods Act, a replacement is required within the first 28 days or a full refund.

Hopefully the Genius guys at the Liverpool One store will be more certain.

My wife and I received 6+s on launch day and hers exhibited the earpiece problem. We've replaced the phone through Apple and the new phone is fine.

I'd suggest just swapping out the hardware.

I don't know how UK Apple stores work, but they will usually just give you a new phone in the States if you bring it in it's within the first few weeks for a defect. If they absolutely insist on repairing it, ask for a refund or for a freebie like applecare+ or a giftcard. Since you have a phone call on record, they should just replace it. Good luck and i'm sure everything will work out.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it :D

Same thing on my old 6+, exchanged it for a new 6+ at Apple store, new one is still the same LMAO:apple:

I am considering heading to the apple store soon to have this looked at. But for me the issue is more about garbled sound quality from the ear piece rather than low volume.

When I try it with headphones it doesn't really improve it, the call quality is still poor. Music playback sounds fine.

So I am curious what everyone means by muffled and whether or not I have the same issue?

I'm so frustrated with the call quality of the 6. I had my device replaced after three days because the phone calls were muffled and static and also the phone cuts me off for 10-30 seconds sometimes. I can hear the other person just fine but they can't hear me. The replacement does the same thing. I have replaced the SIM card and turned off voice LTE. Has anyone had a fix? I really don't want to give up on the 6, but I need to talk on the phone.

My phone just started doing this earpiece is terrible. Going to have to schedule a Genius Bar appointment
