No I do not agree. I had an iPad 3 and have an iPhone 6 Plus.

My 6 plus runs buttery smooth. My iPad 3 wasn't horrible or great.

This is me as well. My iPad 3 got a little crazy with iOS 8, but prior to that I never really had any problems with it. Now that I have an iPad Air 2 I can see the difference in performance.

Whatever issues the 6+ may or may not have, it's no iPad 3. I used to have an Air and a 4 from work. I had to give up the 4 and got a 3 to replace it. Freshly wiped and iOS 8 installed. Lag city. It feels like an old Android phone. Lol. I notice it a lot while typing. I've more or less given it to the kids to use cause it's a little too aggravating.

No problems with the 6 Plus in terms of lag or stuttering in my experience. The iPad 3 just seemed gimped from the beginning. It was a compromise in order to get the retina display in there.

The iPad 3 was a disappointment 100% being replaced by the iPad 4 less then a year. The iPhone 6 plus is no where close to the iPad 3. The iPhone 6 Plus used 64 Bit dual core 1.4 Ghz W/ 1GB of RAM while the iPad 3 had a duel core 1.0 Ghz 1GB of RAM. Personally I only use one app then close it, open another so I've never experienced lag on any iPhone except for the iPad Touch.

Well I just bought my 6+ last night but I know full well this phone's lack of RAM will hinder it long term. Not to mention the full resolution screens were not available in time for production hence the 1080. I will be trading it for the 6S Plus at year's end and maybe those issues well be resolved with that model.

But like mugs we bought them anyway! £700 for a temporary 'stop-gap' phone until the decent one comes out...
In hindsight, who would have kept their 5/5S for another 12 months? I would have.

Apple seems to have mastered the knack of making each new generation of iPhone just "good enough" that there is sufficient reason to upgrade.

Onore Apple!

It's the first iPhone which has not flawless performance on its native operating system. Too many pixels for the A8 chip and 1GB of memory. It will probably end like the iPad 3: less durable iPad ever.

Do you agree?
I can't really see any performance issue on the 6+

A8 GPU in iPhone 6 Plus is 5-6x more powerful than the A5X GPU in iPad 3. It is also around 5x faster in CPU tasks.

All that, while pushing a million pixels less than the iPad 3 (Retina iPads have 1,5x more pixels than iPhone 6 Plus).

iPhone 6 Plus should perform fine like any other iPhone before (Great on the original firmware and very next update and very good on the second update. Things tend to slow down on the third update, although there are noticeable improvements there as well, as iPhones keep getting more powerful with each generation. For example, iPhone 4 was bordering unusable on iOS 7, while the iPhone 4s was OK-ish on iOS 8- not great, but better than iPhone 4 on iOS 7. Following that trend, iPhone 5 could actually perform well on iOS 9).

I don't buy this downsampling lag.

my 7 year old ps3 upsamples games in real time up to 720p, and my $300 TV then upsamples further to 1080p.
everything happens in real time.

it's just a code inefficiency i reckon.

Like others have said, the 6 Plus is a lot like the iPhone 4 and not the iPad 3. The 4 and 6 Plus actually introduced a new generation of chips. The iPad 3 just ran an A5 with 2x the RAM and quad-core GPU.

I knew from the beginning that the down sampling would hurt the 6 Plus in some aspects but not greatly. I know there are a lot of people on here who complain about dropped frames and I'm usually very picky with things like this however I have not noticed any major frame dropage? No. Maybe a frame here and there but nothing like "OMG this phone is complete udder crap".

What I think is really hurting the 6 Plus is iOS Vista, err, sorry iOS 8. Never in one release have there been so many bugs since I have been using iOS (~6 years). Now I'm not going to be the one that screams from the mountain tops "APPLE IS DOOOOOMMMMEEEDDD" but I hope iOS 9 is the 'Snow Leopard' we have been waiting for.

As long as it lasts until 2016 without slowing down, I'm happy.

A phone becoming obsolete during a standard 2 year contract period would be a joke.

As for the iPad 3...ugh what a turd. I brought one for my dad which I'll probably swap out for an Air 2 this year.

To me CPU and GPU are not the issues here. Imo the 1gb ram is a major flaw. It had really really struck me when I was on the bus listening to the music on 6+ and browsing reddit in the alien blue app. I opened macrumors site in safari, then opened the verge in a new tab. 6 + couldn't keep both sites loaded with music and alien blue apps launched in the background. It had to constantly reload them when switching between the 2 sites. I've got 64gb version, and things like that really shouldn't happen on a phone that costs nearly as much as the cheapest macbook air. This is my only gripe with that phone, otherwise it's really good.

Exactly. Some people just don't understand.
The insufficient amount of RAM in the 6+ especially is a limitation right out of the box on day one, let alone in 12-24 months. When a new iOS is released which favours the latest iPhone (which will have increased (*sufficient) RAM), the 6+ will blow. It already blows for those who run into the lack of RAM on a daily basis.

Same for iPad 3 on its native OS. Problems come in the future.
So were predicting that there will be problems in the future and not that the problems exist currently. What kind of scientific assessment proves that there are going to be problems in the future?

We should probably have a 'speculation' section in the forums for threads like these.

It does not matter if you or I agree. In the end the 6 and 6+ has broken all the records for sales and is still selling strong!

That is what I agree on.

They replaced the iPad 3 after half year, they will not do that with the 6+.

Except for the screen, the iPad 3 had the same specs as the iPad 2, which was its previous generation. Does the 6+ have the same specs as the 5S?

No, the 5S has a better camera.☺️

I used an iPad 3 with iOS 7.1, in the past: no performances issues whatsoever.

Plain false.

And you decided 1 Gb of ram are insufficient based on what ? Your well known continuous rant about your iPhone 6+ spreaded all over the forum ?
I'm absolutely fine with my iPhone 6 and my iPad air.

I think a more apt analogy is the iPhone 4. Cool hardware (especially the retina display), but didn't really have the specs to future-proof it against future updates.

I don't think the A8 sucks though. The A7 chip alone is more than capable of driving the 2048x1536 resolution of the iPad mini 2 and iPad air, so it should have no problems powering the 1920x1080 display of the iPhone 6+. Both ran smoothly (and still run smoothly) even with 1gb of ram.

iPhone 4 was first device to have 512mb of ram. iPhone was released after ipad 1 and had double the RAM and its processor was 20-30% faster than the 3GS processor.
