Noticed other day when talking on phone. Thought it might of been something to do with signal or something with being on phone, but was doing it when I wasn't even using phone. Noise is hard to explain on a message board, but people with any sort of hearing would hear this in a quiet room.

Only bad thing is it would be hard for the apple store people to believe me since their stores are packed with people.

Last time I heard that tapping sound on a call, the feds busted through the front door about an hour later. Good luck man....

Well that was a very informative answer. Thanks

It's not really tapping anyway it's hard to really explain but anybody with some sort of hearing would be able to hear if putting phone to ear.

It's probably the little person inside the earpiece tapping to get out.

That's how phones work right? I talk to this little man in my phone and then he relays my information to his buddies who are working inside of other people's phones.

By the way, is noise visible? If so, what type of hallucinogen are you on because I'd like some.

Thanks for the 2nd informative answer in this thread. I wouldn't make a thread just to make a stupid joke.

Relax, just messing with you.

You're best bet is to take it to Apple, regardless of whether or not you believe the sound to be AUDIBLE (not visible) in their stores. Explain the situation to them and have them take a look.

If you have no luck there, I'd suggest a Google search to see if the problem is more widespread. My guess? A simple lose something in the casing/speaker assembly.

In all honesty, anytime you have an issue with an Apple device, if it's possible, your first stop should be the Apple store.

If it is so "little" that they can not hear it in the showroom, they can take it in the back where it is quiet. They can also run dianostics on the device.

Not much anyone can do here, not sure if I have ever heard of this problem before.

Good Luck:apple:

Believe me it's not a issue I've heard of either. The iPhone still does what I paid for, it's just a very annoying noise even though it's not loud. I researched for the last few days to see it's a widespread problem but it obviously isn't.

So good luck to me to actually get the apple store to believe me.

If you can hear it the Apple store can hear it. You sound defeated already!

Be positive and if there is a sound to be heard, Apple will replace your phone. I suggest you do a full backup before you go to the Apple store so you can restore your new phone!

Have a good weekend!

Maybe while you're at Apple, call a friend who'd be willing to talk or read something over the phone so that there is constant speaking and when/if you hear the troublesome noise, give the phone to the Genius so that s/he can hear it.

Ooops. Is noise louder during phone calls or always consistently at the same annoying volume? If a variable, maybe noise canceling feature is acting up.

It's the same annoying volume no matter what I'm doing.

I can hear the same thing. I was just meditating and I thought I heard something clicking. It was driving me nuts. So I picked up my phone. Keep in mind I was NOT on the phone. Yes, it was powered on but that’s it. I put it up to my ear and kept hearing this clicking noise that was strangely synchronized with my heartbeat. Call it crazy whatever, I’m just stating the facts. I listened to it for like 4 minutes before searching to see if I was the only person that’s experienced this.

if you have an iPad or another device that records video. maybe try recording a video in a quiet room to get the sound from your iPhone recorded. Then you have proof when you take it to the apple store.

Possible some some of radio interference is occurring or something in the phone somehow lost its shielding and a lot of interference is happening now?

Another question I have is the phone getting warm while not in used and emitting that sound?

No it’s not that loud that I could record it. I have to put the phone up to my ear as if I’m on the phone with someone. However the screen is black and the phone is locked while the ear speaker is emitting this strange clicking sound. No it’s not warm either, nor does it get warm.
