Good morning!

I apologize if this topic has been previously addressed..

Is it possible to use my iphone 6 plus to mirror Amazon prime and vudu video apps to apple tv?

If so, how well does it work?

I have a roku 3 right now and want to purchase either a roku 4 or an apple tv. I really like the mirroring option from my phone but hate not having amazon prime, pandora, or vudu apps on the apple tv.

Thanks!

Amazon Prime is full-on AirPlay casting, better than mirroring. Your iPhone turns into a 2nd screen and shows actors and brief bios for the scene you're currently watching, a service Amazon calls X-Ray. In some ways it's better than X-Ray on a Roku, as the info partially covers the video. When AirPlay casts, you get the same quality video as if there were a native ATV app, with mirroring you don't. It's up to the developer to support casting, if they don't, mirroring seems to always work.

You could do what I did, get a FireTV4, Roku4 and the ATV4; try them all and keep the one you like best -- return the others. As well as AirPlay works with Amazon Prime Video, there are times when casting it from your iPhone can be inconvenient -- I just got the new 2016 Roku Streaming Stick primarily for Amazon. It works well for that, and has also even more made me appreciate the UI and overall functionality of my ATV4 :)

Amazon works great, VUDU doesn't. To get Ultra-violet movies on my apple TV I use the Flixster Video app, it works but is truly not a very elegant solution. You almost have to have your phone plugged into a charger as it seems to eat through the battery pretty quick. I use an old PS3 as my streamer of choice it has native VUDU and Amazon apps also works as my bluray player. But on my non main TV I do occasionally airplay to my apple TV's.
