I've never had an iPhone before, so I'm not sure if this is just a software glitch. I have a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus. Available space left is 45.9GB. Not full at all. About 2 weeks after I got my iPhone, I sent a couple pictures to a friend through iMessage. I put the phone down, and when I picked it up 40 seconds later it had completely turned itself off. I couldn't get it to turn back on just by pressing and holding the power button. The only thing that turned it back on was holding the power button and the home button at the same time for 10 seconds. Once I got it back on, it seemed fine.

I have had no problems with the phone since that incident and I've had it for over 3 weeks now. I'm wondering if this is just an occasional glitch that sometimes happens with iOS, or is this unusual and indicative of a hardware problem?

I'm still under the holiday return policy. Taking it in to an Apple Store is hard for me because I don't live near one. I would actually have to travel, get a hotel room, and then drive back home the next day just to visit an Apple store. I'm not sure it's worth the trip if it's only a software glitch. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have had it happen on past devices (namely my 4th Gen Touch on iOS 4) and believe it is normal. I don't think it is actually turned itself off, but that it couldn't come out of sleep mode. If it turned itself off, holding the power button should be sufficient because holding Power + Home is a hard reset.
