Same dimming problem here with a 6 with 10.2.1 not related to heat at all.

I'm being prompted to go to 10.3.1; I wonder if that will fix the problem.

You didn't even read what OP wrote, he's pretty clear what he meant....

Anyway, can't say for 6+, but my 6 works fine in terms of back light, there is no issue of dimming.
Yes I have to restart mine to fix it but it does again pees me off when it goes dark all on it's own!!!

Just got back from the Apple Store.

Before they would do anything they told me to go and set my device up as new instead of restoring from my old devices backup.

Doing this now, and will see if the issue remains.
It will mines does it deleted everything then restore it done it many times and now my call forward won't work!!!

I don't like the auto-brightness feature so I turn it off all the time. However, I noticed something strange tonight that the screen actually dimmed itself a little bit, and if I want to go back to full brightness, I had to restart the phone.

Does anyone know if this issue is hardware-related or software-related?
[doublepost=1498206042][/doublepost]Mine does this quite a bit too. I've started to think that it's a thing with the phone heating up too much. When my phone gets really hot, it tends to dim itself, and gradually gets brighter as the phone cools down. Maybe the next time it dims itself, try to notice if the phone is hot. This would be my most logical explanation. If this isn't the cause, it may be something in the software.

Still happening and I'm on an iPhone 7 with latest OS. And the phone is far from hot.

To you perhaps, sure wasn't clear to me why he didn't simply use control center to put the brightness back up instead of restarting the phone.

Guess anyone who asks a question to clarify before trying to help should get a roll of the eyes eh? Nice world with wonderful people we live in...

Actually.. to anyone with Grade 7 level reading and comprehension ability, the original question was very clear. It's not our responsibility to hand-hold you if you can't understand simple English. Don't post "We would need more specifics." when its only you that can't comprehend. What a world we live in when we have to put up with lower cognitive replies with passive aggressive comments quoted above.

It happened to me too. I think it happens when the phones gets hot. As soon as it cools down a little bit the brightness goes to maximum again.
[doublepost=1510250503][/doublepost]No GUYS I HAVE THIS ISSUE IT ISNT FROM IT GETTING HOT well let me clarify I believe it IS caused by the phone getting hot but the phone should not be getting that hot, I have an iPhone 7, I had the same issue I had my iPhone 7 relaxed and it’s doing it on my new one just not as bad or as often, so I was charging my new phone that I just had replaced 2 days ago overnight with screen less than half brightness and playing YouTube audio no video, and when I woke up the phone was soooo hot I couldn’t turn on flashlight or get more than 40-50% brightness, this issue is complicated because then before that it didn’t do it at all while charging so I thought it was apps deleted some thought that solves the issue but it’s nkt the case as I was charging my iPhone for a few mins and using it at the same time and the phone got decently warm not that bad but the screen dimmed itself only slightly I’d say it was at 90$ and wouldn’t go up after a certain point, but then dimmed to 75% then back to about 90 then I set the phone and continued charging and the brightness will go to 90% and then continue getting brighter not be stuck at 90 or 75 and the phone is not getting hot while charging a all now SO BASICALLY it appears to be when the phone gets hot but I don’t believe it is the screen brightness or even the charging causing it to get hot enough to dim it to even 90% of full brightness, something else is causing the issue because if before I was charging and using phone for 10 mins or less and t got warm and started dimming itself slowly (auto brightness off pbv) while charging then I restarted the phone while charging it and continued charging and using the phone for almost 45 minutes to an hour and it didn’t get hot at All at 100% brightness the whole time and while charging and using it the whole time so if that’s not making it hot after I restart it than it isn’t the brightness causing the heat and thus the problem with the screen dining itself... PLEASE everyone help out and let Apple know about this issue, you don’t have to go to Apple store you can call them and let them know and the more ppl who complain, the faster they will fix it I believe it’s some type of song tears bug, it could be an app or something from my back up causing this but I doubt it because I deleted almost every app that wasn’t on the phone to start and it still did it, so I’m certain ta a bug with IOS that certainly needs to be fixed it sucks during a bright day of your screen dims to 90% or 75% or I’ve seen it go as low as 50 often on my other iPhone 7 I just had replaced, seemed to be worse on the other phone but still is occurring on the new one, so long story short RESET YOUR IPHONE TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON AND IT AHOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. ..... ALSOOOO ON A. IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE! Another issue is the battery usuals and standby time on my phone was the exact same meaning it’s glotching or the phone is still running when it’s asleep and not being used but that to me would seem to kill the battery very fast and I haven’t noticed it dying any slower but im going to keep an eye on that as well not, a hard reset took care of that but now it will not give me any usage times until I fully charge my device again which I’m in the process of doing now, so I will keep everyone posted if it turns out that it was just a glitch and the usage and stand by times are no longer the exact same hope I made this clear enough for everyone it’s a really annoying problem for me so I decided to try to make a long post about it because it seems like I have a lot more information than anyone else I can find on this issue !!! Also have never seen it connected to a seemingly SEPARATE issue you can also look up where when you go to your battery in settings and scroll to the bottom you have the same usage time as standby time , or it possibly won’t show at all and I feel this is somehow connected as it would seem the battery is somehow getting hot or the CPU
