In addition to the above problem, my iPhone also occasionally presents grey flickering bars at the top of the screen (does not appear in a screenshot). At all times, the home button and sleep/wake button are fully functional.

I was going to try to restore my iPhone (currently running iOS 9.2 beta 4) but it appears a forum on Apple.com shows that device restores are help in some cases but primarily it is a hardware issue and people are getting their devices easily replaced with new/refurbs at the genius bar. To top it off, my iPhone also qualifies for the iSight Camera Replacement program.

If you have an iPhone 6 Plus with this unresponsive touchscreen with grey bars and occasional screen flickering that occasional becomes responsive again after applying pressure on the screen or hitting the back of your phone, you need to get it replaced by Apple. I'm almost surprised it's not a separate recall program as it appears to have been happening for quite sometime (and likely more frequently lately as iPhones are becoming over 1 year old).

Here's video I uploaded tonight of my iPhone 6+ (I am so sorry for the noob "portrait orientation" video, I wasn't thinking). I made an appointment at the Apple Genius bar for Saturday.

Alright, the Genius Bar appointment went fine. Apple gave me a new iPhone stating that the problem was with the logic board. The genius I spoke with said that this is an issue that is increasingly more common and only seen on the iPhone 6 Plus. He said they notice a spike in this problem around the 1 year old mark and are unsure if it is triggered by software updates or a bigger issue with the logic board. He stated Apple has really started paying attention to this problem and Apple engineers are working to figure out what is going on but so far no one really knows why this is happening exactly. He actually said mine was one of the worst he's seen (it was showing those grey bars while still on the apple logo when he restarted my phone).

My warranty is up end of this January (but my replacement iPhone has a 90 day warranty). I asked if I could purchase an extended warranty because I was concerned this problem might happen again down the line when my warranty is no longer valid. He told me I couldn't purchase extended Apple care BUT he did say if this happens again, i could likely receive a manager override which would still make a replacement iPhone free of charge despite being out of warranty (he said because this issue is well known with Apple). He couldn't guarantee this though, rather just saying "probably" it would be free.

Congrats! I've had a grey bar pop up only once. Almost looks like this GPU failures on the MBP's

My screen has been freezing daily. I've only had my replacement for a month. And this started happening. It's probably because it's refurbished.

You know it's hardware failure vs software when you see grey/white bars at the top of the screen with screen flickering. Also, when the screen is unresponsive to touch, your home and sleep/wake buttons will still work.
