My iPhone 6 has shut down (on 50% battery) and won't turn back on.

I've tried the hard reset and a full restore by putting it in to recovery mode, but nothing works. I dropped it 5 months ago (4 days after I got it) and smashed the screen, aside from no longer going on silent and the front camera being of next to no use since it's worked perfectly

It did the same on Saturday but managed to sort it - no idea how - but not nothing is happening. After shutting down, it got really hot, went to normal temp, back to really hot, back to normal again.

When I try to charge it or plug it in to my laptop, every 5 seconds I get the little noise you get when you put it on charge.

Apple website just telling me that there are no available slots for a genius bar appointment near me and only gives me the option of a phone call - one I can't take as I'm in work 8am-8pm most days and the slight issue of my phone not working.

Now when I try to plug it in to iTunes (since the restore) I just get a message saying it needs a newer version of iTunes. Granted, my iTunes hasn't been updated in a while and I haven't tried that yet - I will now - but I'm still stuck

Can anybody offer any advice? And if I do manage to get an appointment, will Apple try and claim it's due to the drop even though I know it isn't? I could really do with this being sorted tonight as I need to set my alarm to wake me up for work in 6 and 1/2 hours!

EDIT:

Appears to me that the screen may be broken both inside and out. There is life in it as it connects to iTunes and iTunes now recognises it! Progress is slim but welcomed.

How much would that cost to fix?

If the Apple store geniuses in the UK are like those here in the US, they're very likely going to tell you that you damaged your phone when you dropped it - especially when they see the smashed screen. If you purchased Apple Care +, they'll replace the phone for the deductible cost. If no Apple Care + they'll probably want to sell you a refurbished iPhone 6 at a reduced cost.

I can barely afford the £50 a month for the phone contract, let alone Apple Care so I didn't get it. Thank you for the suggestion, though! I was worried they'd do that though, but considering I called up to enquire about how much a screen replacement would be or if I could do it under warranty (both Apple and my provider) surely their system notes can tell the screen issue was 5 months ago?

Was the screen replaced by Apple? Or a 3rd party place?

Many users with iPhone 6/6 plus report to Apple that they're having the same problem with iPhone 6s/6s plus users. However, Apple provides free battery change only for iPhone 6s/6s plus! Totally unfair!
Seems like the issue in this thread from over a year ago is something different.
