Hello,

I have an Iphone 6 64gb with the bottom left part of the screen broken. It's been like that since June, and I have been postponing screen replacement, since overall the phone is working well. However, the camera is also having problems because it is not auto-focusing anymore.
I went to the Genius bar (not sure who is the Genius there BTW..) and a seller told me that I could repair it for approx. 200€ or get a replacement Iphone 6 for 339€.
In the meanwhile, a colleague is selling his wife's similar phone which I have not seen yet but looks perfectly working for 280€. I am tempted to go for this solution. I would buy a new Iphone but I feel that new models will appear soon in early-mid 2018, like an Iphone 8 red edition, which would be neat...
What would you do?

Thanks!

Olivier

IMHO upgrade. The repair cost is equal to the phone's worth. The replacement cost is more than the phone is worth. If it's just a cracked screen you can sell the 6 for parts and easily get $100+.

But should I take the 6? I have looked at the phone and it's pretty ok...screen is pristine, camera works well...have no idea about the battery...still the owner - a colleague - tells me it's 2 years old, it's his wife's (she does not want to reduce to 250€ so I will have to pay the 280€)...
On the other hand, there is a Iphone 7 256Gb (Red) in a store new for 730€...it's beautiful and not too expensive for a 7 256 i think.

Was your avatar photo taken outside of the Earl's Court tube station in London? Sorry for the off-topic post!

If you are able with a screwdriver and have some basic skills you can fix it yourself. Did this on my last iPhone 6 before handing it down to my mother.

New screen, new battery for about 60 gbp and about 30 minutes to swap them over. Just make sure you buy the screen from a reputable seller that sells OEM screens and not replica ones as the replica ones use thinner glass and lower quality LCD. Price it about double (40 gbp in the UK vs about 20 for the non OEM). Battery costs about £10-£15. Or get parts from ifixit. They sell high quality replacement parts.
