And phablets are the best at nothing.

I agree ONLY because an Apple phablet with iOS7 won't do anything more than what an iPad does but on a smaller screen.

iOS7 is down right archaic on the iPad, and a phablet will just be another screen size for devs to deal with.

The Note 2 and 3 on the other hand, have the added advantage of software that actually takes advantage of the screen size and the stylus. Not to mention the added benefit of being able to plug into a display and use a BT keyboard and mouse to navigate . . . .essentially turning a phablet into a desktop.

What's with the 4.7? There's no point. You need a small 4" and large 5.5" and that's it.

Btw, this home button has got to go. I remember SJ saying he wanted it gone (he was a minimalist after all) and this was back in 2010 I think. Don't ask me to find a quote. GIYF.

This is the thinking of the 'new Apple'. Planned obsolescence over SJ's desire for perfection.

And don't tell me the home button is need for DFU or whatever makes the argument sound good. You're telling me they're going to have a home button in 2050 for DFU? It won't be needed then and it's not needed now.

Get rid of the home button with your billions please. Nice Bezel-free display with NO mechanisms on the body and a camera sensor rivalling a DSLR. Yes, in my dreams I know.

Has anyone considered the possibility of apple replacing the touch ID sensor and the home button with the apple logo on the back? The concept has been tested with LG G2 and HTC One Max and it may be the only way to feasibly reduce top and bottom bezel.

I want the bigger screen!

I am happy to see the bigger screen! I have wanted that for a long time.
I dont use a case so I have no problem with the edge to edge screen.
Hope it comes out soon!

Like emjaycee said... I don't know how this will work with cases. Except for super slim cases, most cases come over the edges of the phone a bit. I could also see a lot of accidental contact/interaction with the screen, just by the nature of holding a phone and your skin touching the edges.

If it is truly bezel free, how could you put a decent case on it without covering up part of the screen??

I don't want bezel free. How am I going to put a case on? I like the raised rim protector cases to keep my screen from being flat on a table as my phone lives face down on my desk all day.

Since the design of iPhone will change with the next device (and there is no reason to believe it would not) companies that make these phone cases will have to redesign their cases to match iPhone 6. Third party companies usually design their cases to fit the phone in and it's not for the hardware makers to design a device to fit in a case.

Notice *under reasonable stress*. Dropping it is not reasonable stress.

So by 'basically indestructible' you really meant, highly scratch resistant?

I'm of the view that phones, being a highly mobile device that people are taking in and out of their pockets constantly, carrying while they walk around, etc, etc, should expect to be dropped occasionally. I'm pretty careful with my things generally, and I know I've dropped my phone a number of times over the last 15 years or so. None have shattered into a million pieces yet, so I count myself fortunate. I see an awfully high percentage of iDevices users tolerating shattered screens!

All these mockups show the current screen layout just blown up. If the new phones don't allow for more content on screen then the size increase is kind of pointless.

True to a degree. My dad says he will never buy an iPhone cause the screens are too small. He has a galaxy s4 not because he can fit more content on the screen at once, but so he can increase font size etc without gimping the interface.

More than one size seems legit to me. Like on the iPad, with Mini and Air getting the full specs. I just hope they leave a full spec 4 inch option. I still feel like it's the "perfect size".

those mockups look huge

I really hope they don't make it any bigger than the 5s. or if they do that they keep offering small reasonably sized phones for people.

thats... ugly to me. but well, maybe i will change my mind ;)

Anybody thinking that they only adjust the current design to fit in a bigger screen ist naive. That's why those mockups are so pathetic. A redesign evolving from the current gen it is.
Design-wise, the design changes every 2 years: 3G/3GS – 4/4S – 5/5s

You are definitly a niche player in the smartphone world..I do not see the MASS SMARTPHONE USER really "cry" for the ability to plug is phone into a display and "use it as a desktop"...nor do i see an average user really WISH he/she had a stylus and could do the stuff the niche does. If that were to be the case, then we'd see the stylus features being incorporated into the Galaxy S4 and S5 lines which dominate Note lines in terms of sales. At the end of the day the bigger iPhone (s) will most likely have software tweaks that take advantage of the added real estate in the display, but probably fall well short of what hte note 3 does simply because the average iPhone user will certainly not use the phone to the extent you are using the note3 ( I have been handed down a note 3 by my company for international roaming over wifi (tmobile) and I havent used the S pen ever for anything other then for playing around : ditto for most of my co-workers)...IOS8 will probably be re-designed, new apple apps and features would be added..perhaps multi-tasking improved..I seriously doubt that they would take the NOTE approach to multi window (certainly not 4 windows at once)..I wish they allowed a PAPER (facebook) like interface to scale down certain applications while opening new ones but i really do not see this feature being a commonly used feature by your average iPhone customer..Smoother ios..faster/snappier ios..better UI, additional apps (such as health monitoring) would probably be more beneficial to iPhone customers..

Sadly it won't happen. Apple didn't add any extra software tweaks for the iPad Mini and iPad at all, and they both have fare more screen space than a rumored iPhone 6.

in the end, the iPhone will still just be a media consumption device that gives users a window into certain things they want to do. Apple wants you to buy a tablet and usually both sizes of them, to do any real work. The iPhone users will still need to carry 2-5 additional devices with them daily.

I gave up my iPhone for the same reasons. I got tired of pulling out my iPad when the iPhone wasn't enough, then usually wound up pulling out the Macbook Pro because the iPad just wasn't a great productivity device. Avid made many apps for it to interface with ISIS shared storage devices and such, but all we could do was SEE what was going on and make some minor changes.

The Note does that, and allows us to make basic edits via the webhost, which for some reason kept crashing our iPhones and iPads.

Interesting thing about the Note though, it's far from being a niche device. And I hope Apple realizes that users don't want to spend more money to get functionality that the iPhone has baked in.

Thanks for the laugh. A couple neat features from Samsung that take advantage of the increased screen size don't fix the stretched phone apps and the worlds worst desktop. Stylus support is admittedly nice though.

Except that neither is true. So I am glad that you like to laugh at obvious searchable facts.

Now if you were talking about Android tablet apps sure, you'd make some reasonable amount of sense.

In going from an HTC EVO 4G to a Note 2, even a simple simon user would see that the same version of Evernote's UI changed due to the added screen size. For a time, it was a better UI than what was available on my iPad, not to mention I could jot down notes with the S-pen or use handwriting-2-text directly into the app, two things not available on either the EVO or the iPad.
