So I dropped my iPhone 6 flat on its face today exiting the building during a fire alarm...right on the pavement. The screen looks like an old cracked windshield. I thought these screens were the sapphire screens...guess not. I wonder why we pay so much for these devices, yet their screens are as fragile as eggshells.

They are not as fragile as "eggshells"

YOU dropped it on the pavement. What does paying so much have to do with glass braking when you drop the phone on the pavement?

Trust me, you're lucky the screen isn't sapphire. It would disintegrate upon impact.

Exactly haha. Sapphire would only mean it would be less likely to scratch. Sapphire is more likely to shatter than what is currently used for iPhones. The OP would have been just SOL if it was sapphire.
