So... I've been pretty much enjoying my iPhone 6 for the past 3+ years.
I'm currently having the battery replaced, and been using an iPhone 5 these past 3 days.
Although the screen really is way too small for my liking, I'm struck by how comfortable it is in every other aspect (not to mention the exterior is beautifully simplistic). Above all, I'm sooo enjoying using the phone with one hand again (!!!) something I can't do with the 6, at least not without effort.

I'm seriously considering buying the SE if it gets a refresh this year.
Clearly the screen size is the only disadvantage in my mind, not sure I'll be able to handle it... but it's just so f!@#g comfortable... and fun to use.

Am I out of my mind to even consider this??..

I would do it every day, and twice on Sundays. I went from a 6 to an SE on launch day, but I HATED the size and shape of the 6. You just have to decide what is more important to you, a more comfortable phone or a larger display.

I have the X and would strongly consider an SE2 if the specs are anywhere close. My 5S was my favorite iPhone ever.
I am also considering switching from the X depending on what is announced. I just hope they update the display to the 1400:1 contrast ratio of the iPhone 6. Going all the way back to an 800:1 screen after enjoying OLED on the X would be tough. Fingers crossed!

That's your key question right there.

The SE2 will be a lot more powerful phone in every other aspect.

Prior to the X I'd always been fortunate enough to buy the top flagship iPhone, but I haven't bought the X yet as I didn't see it as value. I probably will, however, should the 2017 model be available for a limited time at a reduced price come September.

Had the SE2 been full screen though (which is now looking unlikely) it'd given me pause for thought, for sure.

The _key_ Ingredient for me to switch to an SE 2 would have to be an updated resolution from the abysmal resolution on the current SE, I’m confident they would update this, along with the A10 Fusion processor, retain touch ID, in a similar form factor, (The 3.5 Jack would not be present I believe).

Depending what specs it has I'm really keen on a SE 2. Last year I went through a bunch of phones, started off the year with a 6s, then a Galaxy S8+, 8, 8 plus and finally a Pixel 2 XL which I'm still using. While I have gotten use to the bigger phones I've come to realise I prefer a smaller device, so much easier to handle with my small hands and pockets! I do like to watch videos, read manga and books time to time but I still find I'd rather do that on an iPad, so down sizing the phone would be great, and with videos my phone is generally locked in portrait 24/7.

Not going to happen but if they could squeeze the X into a SE, that would be the dream.

A 2-device solution is what worked for me, too. The largest phone is still way too small to consume media or surf the web, IMHO, so I’ve got a iPad Mini 4 to offload most of those needs. My phone is only for calls, and texts and emails when my Mini is not with me, so it can be small.

If the SE2 has a better screen, keeps the headphone jack and price, along with better internals, I will eventually resign my 7+. I would love a slightly improved SE2 and an iPad Mini that has pencil capabilities. The 7+ is just too small a screen for me to manage and the iPad Mini would be the perfect commuting companion.

A 2-device solution

Yeah seems like the go the more I think about it. Originally wanted the bigger phone as I though I could just have the one device, but as you say it's still too small to fully enjoy media consumption, and most of the time when I do I'm at home so the iPad or desktop is there. I think I'd be fine with the smaller SE, majority of the time just scrolling through social media apps and messaging. Missing that one handed usability, the Pixel is really getting to me with accidental inputs when I use it one handed.

If Apple releases a second version of the SE, I likely would use the routine with my larger iPhone being a back up device and then use my iPhone SE 2 as my every day device, strictly because I want a less obtrusive device in my pocket for portability Reasons.

Not crazy at all. I'm thinking about switching from my 6S to an updated SE when/if it comes out.
