I always plug my iPhone into my car stereo through the USB port to listen to spotify, podcasts etc but it's suddenly stopped working and the stereo just gets stuck on "Reading..."

It's charging my phone but won't actually connect in order for me to play music through it. It was working fine on my way to work one morning, then a few hours later on my way out to lunch it's just stopped working altogether.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Would help if you listed what the make/model of the car and or stereo is (eg. stock car stereo or after-market).

For example, my after market iPod controller works just fine in my Toyota, while a family member's stock Toyota stereo has always been hit and miss, especially with 3rd party audio apps (eg. TuneIn, Pandora) and iTunes Match.

Did you try the easy stuff first?

1) Close the iTunes app and (double-click the Home button, find the iTunes app and swipe up on it) and then open it back up.

2) Turn your phone off (Hold the power button until the till the Slide to "Power Off" shows and slide till off), then power the phone back on.

It's not a stock stereo, it's a Kenwood (not able to get the model number right now).

I'm not using the iTunes app but I have closed all apps that output audio and turned the phone on and off and neither has helped.

Have you tried another lightning cable, is your phone charging?

I haven't tried another cable but it is charging, yes

if you have another device, iPhone, iPod, iPad, or related USB music playing device you can plug in... try that. Try to see if its the head unit / usb socket or your iPhone 6 no longer working with the unit.

So I tried my iPod Classic with a different cable (not lightning obviously) and has the exact same problem.

The stereo just keeps flashing "Reading..." while the device charges but nothing else happens.

try to do a reset on the deck itself. there should be a reset button you have to push with a pen either on the face itself or on the inside after you take off the face

I had that during the betas and reported it. By beta 3 it was fixed for my Volkswagen and Mercedes in car systems. However it was fine for a long time but since the last update this bug seems to have been reintroduced. I'm also getting it many a time stuck on reading, yet the phone is charging and I can make phone calls. For me it is just the iPod part that doesn't work. A restart of the phone resolves it.

----------

However I have reported it and hopefully they'll fix it again for the next release.

yeah I couldn't see a specific reset button on the unit at all. Going to have to dig out the manual and see if there's any info there.
