When I first got my Note 3, it really did cut into my iPad usage. I found that for average web consumption....reading websites, news articles, watching youtube and wasting time on FB/social networks, it was more than sufficient even at the size differential (Note 3 has a 5.7" screen).

For composing emails it was OK in lanscape mode, although the pop up keyboard still obscured more than half the screen so it really didn't give you all that much of an advantage. Might be easier to type using both thumbs but I prefer seeing the full text box that I'm typing in on message boards, etc. So the "benefit while in landscape" was totally wasted IMO. Perhaps iOS8 does a better job of this but...doubtful to me.

Ultimately, for any real work I'd still prefer my MBA, although the iPad is fine for emails and light word processing, followed by a very distant last place/no other alternative available in the Note 3. I'm almost positive the 6+ would fall in the same place for me here also.

Wishful thinking for anyone other than a very lightweight text-oriented user in other words. Tablets still have their place.

FYI, that's actually an early mockup of the iPhone 6 from an article a few months ago.

That's ok. The size comparison is accurate. An iPhone cannot replace an iPad. Two different planets.

I will probably use my 6+ and iPad air just about equally. My MBA doesnt get used much at all.

I don't use my MBA much either, but when I need it I need it.

I ended to save a file in BMP r5g6b5 format to use as a background for a Kenwood Radio. GIMP made quick work of that. The iPad could have done it. Also needed it on a USB stick.

But I rarely use my MBA anymore. But I couldn't survive on my iPhone alone, not even the 6+.

Buying ip6+ and contemplating ipad usage

I just bought a MacBook Pro 13 and own an 2nd gen ipad and transitioning from a ip4s to an ip6+ as soon as it arrives. I'm starting to wonder if I'll need the ipad at all. But I like to read magazines, watch shows, etc. not sure if the 6+ will satisfy my need for reading and watching. What do you think?

The only place my 6 Plus will replace my iPad Air is when I'm traveling. Other than that the iPad is safe, especially as Apple moves it into "laptop replacement" territory.

No. Web browsing is still more enjoyable at 9.7" than 4.7" or 5.5".

I use mine with Office and notes in school. Note taking on even the 5.5" model wouldn't be as enjoyable or practical.

I also cannot imagine having an iPhone, iPad and an Apple Computer.

I've tried owning an iPad twice, and both times, I've just found the iPad and Macbook Pro to be too redundant.

The iPad really seems to be for someone that doesn't have an Apple Computer, or has a particular need for it (i.e. ebooks).

If anything, it seems as if the larger iPhones will cannibalize iPad sales.

Depends on how you use your devices. I own a Mac Pro, a MacBook Air, an iPad Air and an iPhone 6. I use all of them. None gets neglected.

I have iMac, MBA, iPad mini, iphone 5 and use all daily. I'm planning to consolidate iPad mini and iPhone 5 with iPhone 6+, but only because hubby wants my iPad mini.
