I will preface that I am the original owner. I purchased this phone from my local Apple Store in November of last year.

To make a long story short, I installed iOS 10 PB on my 6s to test it out. I ultimately wiped my phone to do a clean install of iOS 9. Upon going to set up the phone, I get the activiation lock screen which says the phone is associated with an Apple ID. The email is blocked out, but s*****@1*****.com is the associated Apple ID. This is not my ID at all, so when I go to enter my Apple ID credentials, it obviously does not take it.

Again, I'm the original owner of the phone (still have the receipt) so this make no sense at all how the phone is associated with another Apple ID.

Any ideas here?

Log into iCloud.com and remove your iPhone from Find my iPhone.
That should resolve it.

Failing that, go to Apple with you proof of purchase.

The iCloud part likely won't work as it doesn't seem to be associated with that Apple ID.

Hmm, seems like the email address is a Chinese email address, netease 126 or 163. But anyway.
Since you have receipt, use it to argue with Apple and ask them to provide a new iPhone to you.

actually if you provide proof of ownership and the receipt has the imei which it should. then they have a way to disable that. its something they will never tell you unless you provide a receipt saying its yours.

So after being on the phone with Apple for about an hour, they are completely baffled by the entire account. I was able to authenticate my account, along with provide them the original receipt to the phone. They are having a Senior Advisor look into the issue. Fortunately, I have my SE so I'm not in a rush to get this resolved. They let me know that everything should be figured out within 2-3 days.

The Advisor did tell me that I could go to the Apple Store with the original receipt and they can remove the lock.

I can confirm this. The Senior Apple Advisor told me exactly this. Unfortunately, my local Apple Store does not have a genius appointment available until Friday and I go out of town for Labor Day weekend that day.

As a brief update, I received an email from Apple this morning informing me that they removed the lock from my phone. I have yet to test it since I'm at work, but will do so once I get home tonight.

Thanks again for everyone's responses!
