iPhone 6S+ @ Apple store = mostly RG, why?

So.. I've been searching every Apple store around me for about a week.

The only color I have found available for 128GB iPhone 6S+ in on the entire West Coast (US) seems to be mostly RG and the occasional Gold and maybe a Silver one.. Not a Space Gray to be found (nearly nationwide).

Based on my calculations there are 7-10x 128GB Rose Gold available for every 1-2 other colors.
(This is for AT&T)

Anyone know why?

Did they make that many more RG's than Gray/Silver? Did a lot of people buy the 128GB Rose Gold phones on spec (hoping to flip them on eBay?)

It's maybe because of higher demand, since the rose gold is just a new released colour, and they think they'll sell more of it, like the time the 5S in gold, there was limited stock, and they didn't want that to happen again.

Space grey has always been a strong contender. Even when gold was new (and arguably more popular than rose gold), space gray was selling out everywhere. It seems to be easy to get a reserve or launch device, but the color doesn't end up readily available until about Christmas time. The last two years I went with silver for this very reason. Happy to be back to black though.

Maybe its just the bullwhip going through Apple's supply chain. The RG was the first the sell out on pre-order, so maybe Apple decided to crank up production of the RG models which is now flooding the stores just as demand wanes.

Im on the east coast (15 miles from NYC), and it's the same deal here. Most common iPhone 6s Plus is rose gold. Most common color for any size is rose gold. Over here, AT&T phones are starting to pop up other places. I'd check out Target. I walked in and out, two days in a row. Got two 128 GB's in non-rose gold colors.

Apple probably kept most RG models for their own stores, whilst giving the carriers the other colors. I've seen the space grey models shipping out faster than a monkey out of a box across the shipping threads for different carriers. From launch day orders to today, there's been a wave of space grey, then rose gold, and now I'm beginning to see silvers and golds ship out along with more space grey models.
