More control and greater ability to extract junk fees on changes of phone. What's not to like if you're a carrier?
I understand why, but also don't understand why the ITU didn't insist they get rid of white lists as part of adopting LTE. AT&T and T-Mobile can't use white lists. Hopefully in a few years when the carriers start turning off their 3G networks to make room for 5G this becomes a non-issue.

Yes with an 850 credit score I didn't qualify;)o_O .... I fully understand it and it's not a deal at all

IMO, those who have to have a new iPhone every year and want the security of AppleCare may see the upgrade program as a good deal, and it is . . . for Apple. And that's okay, folks can do what they want.

On the other hand, the SIM-free 6s/6s Plus is a good deal for both the Apple and the customer. I look forward to the day that Apple includes the SIM-free model or has only the SIM-free model when the new models are released. I don't need Band 30 now, but since I use a prepaid MVNO, I like having the option to switch carriers without any compromise in the phone.

Actually what you said was the program is a giant scam, which is false. Just because you don't care for Apples new upgrade program does not mean it's a scam. For some (not myself) this new program is a way to get a new iPhone every year without shelling out over $800 at a time. Personally, I prefer to pay the money up front every year. But that's just me. I can still see how this program would work for others, though. ;)

I'm not sure if my question goes here, but I will ask anyways. I purchased the iphone 6s, model A1634 with the intention of activating it on Verizon's prepaid network. Does anyone know if Verizon is allowing the 6s to be activated on prepaid at the moment? Can I purchase the Verizon prepaid SIM card activation kit at Walmart and have it work right out of the box? Or should I purchase a dummy Verizon prepaid smartphone, activate the SIM, and swap it into the 6s?

You should be able to get the sim kit and make it work. Just like if you had an active sim and then added it to the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6s would work. You just can't activate a post-paid account using the the phone.

OK, currently a T-Mobile customer. If I walk into a Best Buy and purchase a Verizon iPhone 6s (because I want to receive best buy reward zone points) it will work out of the box on T-Mobile, correct?

First off, its nearly impossible to have an 850 credit score, so I think that's BS.

So what exactly is a "scam" about the Apple program? From my quick analysis of it, it looked to me like if you cashed out at the end of it, that you ended up paying less total than if you bought a phone outright with AppleCare+. So where's the scam?

Personally, I was considering doing that but decided to just buy it outright because I wasn't sure if I was going to keep the Plus or go back to the S.

Many people don't have $1,000 laying around to buy an iPhone, but are able to afford a monthly charge. Compared to the old 2 year contracts, I think Apples program is great because it lets you stay out of any kind of long term relationship with the carrier.

I don't know if this is true since both my husband and I have the same score. However, our house mortgage is paid off and we also pay off our credit card every month. So that may explain why our credit score is so high.

There is a credit hit to do the iPhone upgrade Apple program.

We won't know if there will be another credit it when those who want to upgrade next year.

While I have 800 plus credit score and carry zero balance in any of my cards. I am more judicious when applying for credit.

I usually look for good credit card promos (southwest companion pass/chase visa( free companion ticket for 1 plus year worth about $500-5000 depending how much u fly) British Airways 100k miles promo (redeemed for like 9 round trip tickets from Miami to Turks and Caicos since BA redeems on distance (flights $400-500 each usually).

Or Amex 100k promo (worth around $1000).

It's just silly to do iPhone upgrade program for many of us working professionals. I don't mind paying $900 plus up front. I can resell in a heartbeat for $500 in 1 hour on Craigslist in 12 months ($600 would be the real going price in one year for 64gb unlock iPhone 6S plus). So anyone can sell it for $500. Just meet in public place.

I won't say it's a scam but in general it's more beneficial to buy outright vs financing. Even 0 financing. If you can truly afford it, buy it. Otherwise save until u can.

I don't think it's a scam either. Although I have also paid full retail for all my iPhones. I figure I might as well buy them outright if that is what I'm going to do in the end anyway.
