Iphone 6s Photo managing help

Hi

Im about to purchase an iPhone 6s, I would just like to ask about photos and how I manage them when space may get low on the device.

If say I get low on space on the iPhone is it possible to delete/remove photos from the device but still have them stored on my iMac and any other device i have them synced with?

Hdd space should never become much of a problem on our iMac but it could on the phone of which Im getting a 64gb version.

Can anyone explain how this would work?
