Read the whole thread. Nothing happened, still stuck at the remaining- 2 hours, which it has been saying for 6 hours. Tried turning the phone off and on and it made me start all over again. Definitely no magic for me

Trying to setup my new iPhone and it is stuck at restoring my iCloud backup at the time remaining: estimating part.

I turned it off and back on, disabled Find my IPhone on the old phone, but it is still hanging there. Been about 45 minutes or so now.

Just wondering if anyone else had this issue or if it is just that a lot of people are restoring their phones and the servers are just overloaded or something.

Thanks!
Not getting the magic hear yet. Hopefully the post will kick it in to hyperdrive

The magic has worked. I'm actually amazed. Don't forget to restart your phone if it doesn't work by the time you've read the whole thread. Best solution I've ever seen in all of my amateur IT days.

This is magic! Holy crap it seriously worked! Backstory:
My iPhone 6S was on a restore of backup from my old iPhone.. Kept at estimating for AGES.. Restarted the phone, restarted my wifi connection, nothing. Was very, VERY frustrated!

Google brought me here, thought "BS! And even if this so-called 'thread magic' exists.. It isn't going to work for me.. I'm the type of person miracles don't seem to happen to".. As I was reading the thread around page 5 in total skepticism, I got a pop-up notification on the iPad mentioning "a new iPhone is being used with my Apple ID".. No way. Glanced at the phone in slow mo, and it was on the restarting apple logo. Touched the phone, put in my code, and was greeted with the "restore complete" message!. ! Thank you thread magic! thank you!

I just opened an account to post that it frickin works!

...been having issues all day and restored several times to no avail, read this thread (honestly only through page 2) and no **** it went from estimating to 35 minutes. First time it has done that all day, every other time it had stuck at estimating. In the time it took for me to register it is now at 2 minutes.

As for those who the mojo isn't working this is what I've been doing all day:

GPS hasn't been working all week and I had read people with versions of 9.3 (mine is 9.3.2) had had issues with their GPS not accurately showing them. Hoping and praying it was a software issue (as I really really want to play Pokemon go) I decided to backup to icloud and reset to factory settings (resetting from the phone itself).

First time I tried to restore it stuck at estimating and eventually told me it couldn't update. Then I did a long string of things

  • tried factory reset several more times, ran into issues even logging in
  • locked myself out as I had requested a 2FA code too often
  • Eventually said "**** it" and hit setup as new phone (didn't fix GPS issue)
  • factory reset again.
  • removed 2FA from my account (couldn't receive texts for the code with phone not setup and having it call me was annoying)
  • ran into road block of it asking for my passcode from my "old" phone and it not accepting the code I KNOW is the correct one as I used it several times earlier today
  • Managed to reset the code deleting all stored passwords on the keychain (didn't even know I had stored anything)
  • reset password to the account
  • Eventually tried things so many times it told me "device Blocked" and to try again in 24 hours
  • called customer support
  • they told me to connect to my computer and do a restore from itunes (where it downloads the software fresh). Took forever but downloaded finally
  • had it install the software
  • went through steps to setup phone again, ran into the "device blocked"
  • annoyed hit OK
  • Asked me to select which backup I wanted to restore from (what? I thought I was blocked from signing in on this device for 24 hours??)
  • Got stuck at "estimating"
  • came to thread, read through to the end of 2nd page, magically started working.

tl;dr: So some things for you to try: remove 2FA briefly from your account to make things easier, restore to factory settings from your computer so it downloads the software afresh, don't be an ass and try things so many times it at least thinks your locked out, just click 'OK' if you get device blocked message and see if it works anyway, profit?

As finishing this post, things have successfully restored and I am downloading all apps. GPS is still broken but at least I have my apps back (including my authenticators). To the apple store I go tomorrow.

Mojo worked for me, but hopefully something in all the things I tried today will work for you.

Created an account to see if it works. Trying to help my brother get his phone to restore and I am using my phone right now. Any tips for the magic? Lol. I keep tapping on the screen to keep it from hibernating. Is that the best course of action? Stay tuned...magic fairies don't fail me now! If this works my brother has to pay me.

Omg it worked!! My brother owes me $20! Bahaha this is crazy. It did take restarting again and giving it a tiny bit of time to work. I went and grabbed lunch and checked it again and it was completely done! This is after 24 hours of my brother trying to fix it and calling Apple Support.

After about an hour I finally consulted Google, and after I read about a page and a half of this post the progress bar jumped 25% from the last time I looked! THAT IS F**KING CREEPY. But I'm totally bookmarking this for the future!

I read through the whole thread thinking that everyone posting that reading this thread worked was in on some joke BUT THEN I LOOKED AT MY PHONE WHICH WAS FROZEN FOR THREE HOURS AND IT WAS DONE RESTORING. OMFG. I'm amazed and scared

Mine is stuck on this screen since yesterday... Still 10 hours waiting, and not even moved a milimeter. Whats wrong????

Oh God, it's first been stuck on estimation, now it shows me 1 hour remaining, please, thread, please, finish your job!)))

Ok but....no jokes here...it actually jumped to 8 minutes remaining when I got through the last page. I was laughing at how people were being so ridiculous about all this and then BOOM!!! It worked!

it kinda worked? reading through this thread and suddenly, mine started to move. but...the minutes are going higher instead of lower. from 4 it became 7, from 7 became 9 mins. lol now it's 12 mins.

made an account just to say... it worked. i don't know why or how. i got to page 3 of the thread, checked on the phone, and i had magically received a time - 22 minutes. by the time my post was near completion, i reached 1 minute. i continued writing my post proclaiming the amazing wizardry of this thread, and my phone reached the restore screen. i am wrapping this post up because my phone restored. unbelievable.

I belong to the group of people who made an account just to slap my own ass about this thread actually somehow enabling my phone to get passed "time remaining: estimating". Had to go to the Apple store to figure out why my phone wouldnt connect to my AT&T plan after getting back from mexico... They where pretty confused as well since my phone wasnt showing is icde number or what ever its called. Long story short they finally figured it out after wiping my phone so I left. From there I kept trying to update from my last I cloud back up and about 5 times it kept saying lost connection to the internet. Then I finally got home and connected to wifi and got the same result, but on the second try after about 20 mins of it trying and staying on "estimating" I found this thread and I **** you ****ing not once I got to the 2nd page it 20 mins, when I got to the 3rd it immediately went to 18 mins without counting down, just as soon as I clicked it. Glad to be apart of this mind****. Sorry to make my post kinda long... since you kinda have to read all of them for it to work.. lol nah, I skipped like 60% of the post and just went to the last page and my phone finished.. idk wassup here but my phone is working, good day.

I. do. not. believe. it.

I was erasing and restoring my phone after having it unlocked with my provider, and I have been having problems for FOUR frustrating hours. Multiple times it had an error pop up telling me it could not restore from iCloud backup, the verification codes would not send to my phone, and I was about ready to throw it through a window. I googled what to do as my final try, and I came upon this thread. Against my better judgement, because I usually do not believe this stuff, and I had nothing better to do, I read every single word of the thread. Not expecting to see anything, I looked down, and no word of a lie, it says 43 minutes. 43 minutes is better than it being stuck at "estimating" forever. Say a little prayer for my phone to the Apple Gods.
[doublepost=1468776045][/doublepost]Okay, I felt pretty hopeless as I was reading through the replies, because my phone kept saying: "Time remaining:estimating" as I was going through the thread. As soon as I read the last word of the last post - bam! It switched to Time remaining:22 minutes!!! Wow!!!! This is for real!

Was just googling anything i could possibly think of to figure out how to get my iCloud to restore and not be stuck on time estimating after going from the IOS10 beta back to IOS9 and just by reading this thread my phone is now back up and working!!!!

Not working for me :( Guess I will try the posting thing....its 4 am...I need sleep....and a functioning phone

Okay so I restarted everything (for the 20th time), re-read all the posts, and now it says 43 minutes....better than "about a day" hopefully it finishes!!!

hahahhahaha oh my God !! is real, I just read this and started working hahahaha, now is complete!!!!

Okay, it said 'Estimating', but I've read the first page and it started moving. Lovely, thanks!
