My point is that others have demonstrated that it's possible to have a waterproof iPhone clone, so it should be possible to have a waterproof iPhone. And you imply that waterproofing is an unnecessary feature on a phone for any reasonable person, but it doesn't take an idiot to accidentally drop an iPhone into water and break it. Obviously a place where Apple is behind.

You most certainly have reading comprehension issues. Neither did I say or imply anything about waterproofing. Go back and re-read my post please. I was commenting on how the guy could've gotten shocked from holding the iPhone because it had gotten hot after being in water. That's all. So sick at how some people here just knee-jerk reply without reading first.

Now the water test was good....

Either way it wouldn't really matter. users would still find ways to drop their phone in the swimming pool, just like they drop them now (accidental), spillage, or knocked off a table.

The replies to this article are terrible. It's great that Apple is making the iPhone more water resistant, and it's nice to know just how resistant it now is.

When an electronic device suddenly gets very hot to the touch after being dunked in water I beg to differ. But by all means please do put up a video demonstrating the high possibilities of safety from erratic-acting portable devices resulting from water and electricity. :p

It can get hot, sure, but you won't get an electrical shock from the voltages in a Li-Ion battery or in an iPhone in general. Just like you won't get an electrical shock from a 12V car battery, even though it can melt a steel tool if you accidentally short it out. You might get burned, but not shocked. Your body, like pure water, is a poor conductor of electricity.

I blame "will it blend" for the ever increasing list of tech destruction videos that surround product launches now.

For me it peaked with someone boiling the Apple Watch which segwayed into a truly disturbing list of condiments and other foodstuffs being slavered all over the poor watch.

I work at a forge. Give me two iPhones* and I'll check if they're fireproof.

* 128GB rose gold only obviously, and the second is so I can sell it and get a Macbook Air.

You just described very well my failed experiment of running a garden hose down to the bottom of a swimming pool. Unless someone has watched Bugs Bunny they may not know there's an air pump to get air under pressure down to those tethered deep sea divers *and* allow them to take a breath.
Heh. I had the same brainstorm as a kid: "Just use a long hose, attached to a float on the surface, and snorkel deep!" Stupid physics. Oh well...

Just wanted to let everyone know that my wife's iphone 6s survived a 15 minute swim. I left it in the bucket filled with water without even noticing it till my wife asked for her phone. I grabbed the phone and saw that it was still on. Quickly turned it off and placed it in a zip lock bag with brown rice, all covered for 4 days.
Turned it on yesterday and it still works! I quickly bought applecare in case it stops working in the future! Glad it was before the 60 day mark!

I thought you could only get AppleCare after an inspection when you didn't buy it with the phone? Is water damage even covered?

I did it over the phone last night with Apple. I called Verizon and they said they only have a 30 day policy and transferred me to Apple (so i dont know the number they called). I asked to purchase Applecare and all the guy did was confirm it was within the 60 days and asked me to send the diagnostic logs to him (Settings/Privacy/Diagnotics & Usage). I guess those logs confirms that the phone still works. I dont think they really care about water damage since the phone works and we do have to end up paying the deductible of $100 to get a refurb phone if it ever breaks. Apple care covers 2 accidental damages which includes water damage.

  • Coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage,(2) each subject to a service fee plus applicable tax ($79 for iPhone 6 or earlier models, $99 for iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus)
