This is one of those times Apple is insane, what do they expect a chorus of consumers to shout, "yay smaller battery?" With battery life already too short, design is definitely starting to trump function.

Function of having a tolerable battery life.

I don't understand why Apples philosophy on size is only a one way street. They can keep making the devices thinner yet would never consider making them slightly large to increase battery capacity, even out the camera lens etc. In the race to achieve the thinnest phone, the customers are losing.

3D senses more levels of pressure than Force Touch

Not sure there is much difference, but it is treated a different way by the software. On my watch you can clearly press the display and see that it detects very subtle movements from your finger. Just try slowly pushing on the watchface. You can "play" with the depth pretty easily. I am sure it's the same on the phone, but apple have added a middle-point action. They could I am sure do this on the watch which I think would be really cool. I have not seen anywhere where it says how many levels of pressure there are, but it's actually very nuanced on the watch.

This weight gain on the iPhone with new 3d touch, I'm thinking there are room for improvements when Apple redesign the iPhone for next year. make it thinner, smaller taptic engine, flush camera optic, etc.

So they're going to make it thinner AND the camera is going to be flush?
That would be nice, but I really don't want to sacrifice camera quality.

iPad 3 was thicker than iPad 2 and heavier.

I now understand Apple pursuit of thinness, not only innovation in how to shape the future but also to push themselves on what is possible. Look at the iPad from 2010 to the iPad Air 2 now and see the improvements.

if they make it thicker and increase battery size, I'm thinking they would become lazy to just call it a day like that.

That is why Apple doesn't always listen to "the people"... because the people don't always know or understand what is further elevates a product.

Your phone dying halfway through the day certainly elevates the product.

Making the phone a brick doesn't further the progression of the tech or design... any crap company can shove a huge battery in their product and pat themselves on the back at the end of the day.

And they've invented a solution to your problem with the extended battery case. Then you can have your brick of a phone and long battery life...

Apple isn't in the business of controlling how much or how little you use your device, it's not their problem that you can't get to a charger or use your phone more than they recommend as their average of a full days charge. Do you cry and moan when your car doesn't get the MPG that is on the sticker too?

Think before you write...

Neat work. However the way Apple does archive more battery IS with a bigger battery, (or more of them like in the laptop's) even though it may be smaller than previous model, its not exactly a 'postage stamp' just yet. (and probably never will be in the short term)

Why don't you think before you write? You're putting words in my mouth. I don't think the answer is a bigger phone, I think the answer is to stop putting stupid marketing gimmicks into the phone and have the phone have a decent battery life regardless of what actual features are included. What is the point of having a gee whiz phone only for it to turn into an expressive slap of useless half way during the day? That's just pure idiocy on the part of Apple and another symptom of their slow slide down. They've lost focus on the customer and instead people at Apple are becoming indulgent and lazy, thus the most mediocre phone release in years.

I know...I just wanted to hear it from iFixit. lol

Not iFixit - but confirmed lol.
