Has anyone ever had the colored part of the phone, under the glass chip? Mine fell from my pocket while in my protective sleeve but of course it slid out slightly from the sleeve. The glass was fine. However, the white colored part chipped under the glass at the top of my phone. It's not awful, but it annoys the crap out of me. I'm trying to hold off from dropping $100-130 to replace my screen. It's not cracked. You can't feel any damage on the glass, itself. I've never seen this happen before now. I've googled around to see if anyone else has had this happen, and I don't find anything.

Long story short, I'm curious if anyone else has seen this?

Can you take a picture? I have an idea in my mind about what you're talking about but I've never seen this happen. I'd be inclined to think it's actually a crack that you're seeing and the damage is refracting the light differently causing it to look the way it looks.

Regardless, it sounds like it's damaged and it sound like you know it. Only you can decide whether or not sinking money into it is worth it. If I were you I'd just live with it. I'd be annoyed too but not $130 annoyed.

I'll try to take a picture. The glass is completely fine. No cracks and chips. I guess whatever material is used to make the glass white chipped off? I'm puzzled myself, as I've never seen it happen.

I'm guessing that Apple will charge me for a screen replacement, but I've got a Genius Bar appointment tomorrow to just let them look at it.

Yeah, post a photo.

I had a white iPad 2 that I dropped off my night stand onto the carpet, landed on its corner. Everything was fine except a small piece of white was under the glass in the middle of the iPad screen. No idea what they're using for their white devices, but I've stuck to 'Space Gray' since that happened.

Yeah. I'm not sure I'll be getting any more white apple devices. I'm slightly concerned that it will get worse with time. I think an additional small piece of the white coloring came off after the first piece. Thankfully, none of it is around the screen.

What did you end up doing? Did you get the screen replaced or what?

Well, I had a Genius Bar person look at it, just to see if they'd be willing to fix it. Figured it couldn't hurt. They refused and said I'd have to pay for the repair. Kinda makes me wish I had the SE, since screens are so cheap. Just going to live with it, though it really sucks. Haven't even had the phone a whole month.

Are you talking about the plastic surrounding the screen. Mine fell a few times and it got chipped

No. I'm actually starting to think that the glass chipped on the inside or something because of contact to the plastic rim. I think that's why I can now see through the white coloring of the screen.

Still a bummer. I just had to have one screen replacement and one replacement because of display defects, so I was hoping they would be generous in compensation for all that. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to deal with it until I replace it or it breaks worse.

Wish I could say it was solved. They told me at the Apple Store that any damage is possible with even the slightest drop. The genius refused to replace my screen without me paying for it. I still think the white bezel shouldn't chip so easily, especially considering the glass itself did not crack or break.
