A thin, oblong home button would do away with the ability to use Touch ID at any angle. I kinda like that option. It makes unlocking my Plus very easy.

I do not like how big the iPhone 6 is. The phone is just too big to fit in my pocket for daily use. My 5c was perfect size. I would give up my large screen phone in change for a iPhone 4s or 5s sized phone and also a tablet.

I hope they will NEVER change or remove the touch ID home button. This is what makes the iPhone look stunning from the front especially with the shiny ring around it that gives it a classy and elegant look. Just image how ugly an iPhone would look like without this home button. Making it look like the samsung home button would be even worse, and maybe touch ID would be less accurate or require a swipe since it will have a smaller surface to scan the fingerprint.

Way too similar to Samsung's designs.

The circular Touch ID is here to stay (unless they incorporate it into the screen itself). It's simple and it works.

The top bezel, however, has got to go.

Remove the Home Button (have the bezel at the bottom as the Home Button), give the iPhone mini some colour and there! That's a perfect iPhone family

God. Why are some of the ideas people come up with on here so stupid?

That actually looks pretty nice. Logistically, how do you mimic the current home button push? A double tap, short drag, long drag? Come to think of it, there are a lot that you can do with a miniature touch pad there. I currently use a MacBook Pro with a Touchpad and I prefer a virtual click than physical click because it takes less effort and easier on the arm if you use the computer for a long time daily. It's not that clicking the home button is a problem on the iPhone because I don't do it that often.

OP is definitely into Samsung, good effort but no thanks on the design, Id just get a Samsung if I liked your design

Am I missing something? As a consumer, I couldn't care less if the next iPhone look like another brand's phone. All I care is that it looks good and functions well. I am not paid to propagate one company's identity.

With bezels that small this thing would have to be at least twice as thick as the iPhone 6 to fit all of it's components.

You realllllly think Apple will switch the Galaxy home button? :roll eyes: Lol. Get out of here!

Those are Galaxy Alpha's (Well, not anymore since Samsung is supposedly getting rid of these) mockup, not iPhones! Lol.

Gross. I didn't even think about it looking like a Galaxy because I've never owned one and most everyone I know uses iPhones. If the only difference between an iPhone and a Galaxy is a swished home button and thinner bezels then that's more a function of Samsung copying Apple. Samsung is on a massive decline right now so they will be much less relevant by the time we get to a design like this.

I love how all of you guys are focussing on the button when the main point of my post (which I even specifically mentioned) was to show how small the phones can get when reducing the bezels. Also wanted to talk about the simplicity of having three even sizes and how even a 6" Plus could be smaller. I also acknowledged that the Touch ID button is the single biggest problem to overcome and it could be overcome with Force Touch and in-display fingerprint scanning—which I believe Apple has patents for. E-ink hybrid displays could show the button visible at all times.

You guys are delusional if you think that phones will always have fat bezels and physical buttons on the front. Yeah—they will all end up looking mostly the same because eventually everything will be reduced to a slab of glass. I think Jony Ive said something after iOS 7 came out about software being true to the materials and that the software will become the design of the device. You think Apple is stupid? There is a reason Jony is over software design now. The iPhone will eventually just be a bit of glass and metal (maybe that liquid metal alloy stuff) and what will make iPhones stand out the most is the look of the software.

I hope we do get a 4 inch option at some point. Would be great for those of us who want a smaller phone.

Why can't they make the top bezel smaller and make the screen longer, like this:

Those designs look hideous. I would be horrified if an iPhone was made that looks like that. This is Apple, not Samsung.

They can. If the design of the face of the device changes at all, this is my bet.

But what's going against it is that it's not symmetrical so it just "looks" weird to a lot of people that like symmetry. Additionally, providing the same amount of space on either side of the screen ensures that when you turn it to landscape mode, no matter which direction you turn it or which hand you hold it in, you know exactly how much space you have to put your thumb.

But there's one reason that, I believe, completely eliminates this type of design. It doesn't change anything. It makes no impact in usability at all. You're not lowering the screen, so things at the top aren't easier to get to. All for, what, .2" being shaved off the top of your device that may force you to make the device thicker to accommodate the camera module? Shaving off the top bezel does nothing to either positively or negatively impact usage.

And shaving off the bottom bezel or eliminating the home button in favor of an on-screen button does nothing either. The iPhone has a bottom bezel that is the same size or smaller than almost every Android device's bezel + button area with the exception of Galaxy devices. Throw your favorite devices in to a phone size comparison website vs the 5/5S/6/6P and see for yourself. Or take my screenshot for it.

I wouldn't mind a 6 inch iPhone 7. I recently played with a Nexus 6 and thought it was a good size.

The biggest design change that Apple needs to do is make the bezels smaller.

Apple should just implement the whole home button with Touch ID into the screen. They could probably use the same technology they are using in the apple watch.

I've always wondered…

what's the point of mock-ups? I mean, predicting what the next iPhone is going to look like is a waste of time and energy don't you think?

It's not like Apple comes here to get their design ideas. This would actually be the worst place for that really.

I don't think I want any of you designing Apple products.
