Actually the cameras are the main reason I went with the 7+ over the 7.
I use the longer lens cam more then the faster wide lens cam. As I mentioned the camera app (and all of the 3rd party manual apps that I've tried) allows me to choose which cam (or use both at the same time) regardless of the lighting conditions.
For me and for my uses of the camera, the camera on this iPhone is the best of any cell phone camera that I've ever used with the possible exception of the Lumia 1020 years ago. I've used many Android, Windows and BB phones over the years. I had a Samsung S8 when I bought the iPhone a couple of months ago. I sold the S8.
My lady friend, who has been a Samsung girl for years, starting with th S3, said rh same thing after she saw and tried my iPhone 7+. She now has one also and has sold her recent S8.

Thought S8 has similar feature and with more control.

That seems like a lot of fussing around in the store being harassed by sales people.

What I want from the camera based on my 6S is:

Faster low light focus.
Better quality shots.
Better low light shots.

The ability to take photos of my black and white spaniel with good sharp fast focus and the ability to not smudge his white fur, which is something the 6S can do.

This is one of the more comprehensive reviews of the iPhone 7 Plus camera.
https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/iphone-7-plus-camera

I'm planning to upgrade my iPhone 6 to either a 7+, 7s+, or iPhone 8. I'm an amateur photographer, so a lot of it will come down to the camera specs between the three. The 7+ is already a big upgrade over my current iPhone 6.

I'm sure any of these options will be improvements over your 6s, but in the camera world autofocus speed and image quality under various light conditions are relative. I suspect that anything from the 7+ up will be an adequate replacement for my Olympus XZ-10 compact point & shoot camera, but not for my Olympus OM-D E-M5 micro four thirds camera or my Nikon DSLR.

It sounds like the 7+ is on par with the best mobile devices when it comes to low light autofocus and autofocus speed, but if you combine very low light with low contrast subjects even some high end cameras will hunt for focus. The review also says that the wide angle image quality is low light is much better than the telephoto lens performance, but in good light they are both very good. The same is often true of many dedicated cameras an consumer lenses: They perform better at wide angles where the aperture is often capable of letting in more light, but the aperture gets smaller at the longer focal lengths.

I think it's safe to say you would be pleased with the improvements going from a 6s to a 7+, but you might as well wait to see what Apple announces this month. So far the camera hype is all about augmented reality, so I'm expecting only modest improvements for photography and video, but in the world of digital photography modest improvements are still significant and sometimes worth paying for... depending on what you shoot and what your expectations are. You might be better off putting that money towards a dedicated camera with a larger sensor (like a Sony RX100 series) or an interchangeable lens camera system.

Ok so I went and played a bit yesterday, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were next to each other, they both still have that step changing when the light changes on the camera... thought they'd of fixed that but whatever.. the screen on the Plus is noticeably sharper and clearer, so that is the deciding factor really. I'll get a Plus.
Think I'll wait to see what happens at the keynote though.

But yeah I'll buy thit 7 Plus. I'm actually tempted to also get a One Plus Five as a backup phone as it's a nice design.

I played with a Galaxy S8 Plus and the first thing it did was lag...... and Samsungs default colour scheme is horrible, so over saturated.

What do you mean by "step changing when the light changes on the camera?"

Yeah... I've read that the 7+ display is noticeably better, but never compared them in person. I would lean towards the bigger phone for that reason as well, but also because of the dual lens. Perhaps the iPhone 8 will be even better in terms of display and the dual cameras though!

The secondary camera is a separate module, both lens and sensor.

The primary sensor is identical to the one found on the 7, a 12MP, 1/3" sensor, coupled with a 28mm (36mm equiv) f/1.8 lens.

The secondary sensor is much more similar to a front facing module, it's a 12MP, 1/3.6" sensor, coupled with a 56mm (36mm equiv) f/2.2 lens.

The secondary camera module is mostly used for well lit 2x zoom photos and also portrait mode photos, otherwise the primary module is used

The latest iPhone's camera is by far the BEST i have ever used. See our video below:

It's still not fixed even when in iOS 11 beta's, and I haven't seen any other phone do it, it looks very low quality on an expensive handset. Only the iPhone 7 seems to have the problem..

The 7 Plus was a huge leap for me when I purchased the 6S Plus two years ago. But it's been perfect for me and I have adjusted to the overall size much quicker than I anticipated. The 1080 P display, stereo speakers, battery life and overall having the larger display has made the viewing experience much easier over my the smaller iPhones.

The specs are quit a bit different with the 7 and 7+ being the leader.
I love my 7+ camera. Pretty much the only thing I use to take a picture anymore.

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't aware of that as a iPhone 6 user. Hopefully the iPhone 8 does not have the same problem. Seems like something they could have fixed in an iOS update unless they are dealing with some kind of hardware or processing power limitation.
