I live in the US, and they released a Bluetooth chip card reader to solve the lack of headphone jack problem.

Gift cards don't have a chip though. Which means it will still need to be ran through the headphone jack reader.

Also a small percentage of credit and debit cards out there still don't have a chip- though I do notice that a majority of my customers do use the new chip card reader because more and more cards have chips.

What do you think Square is going to do? I doubt a lightning adapter will work with square.

Manually enter the data on the rare occurrence you need to deal with a CC without a chip. Yes annoyingly you will be charged more for doing this.

However the majority of people have chips now. Plus the 50 dollar BT chip reader also accepts ApplePay, Samsung Pay etc etc. So you'll be giving your customers more options for payment which is always a good thing.

I love the new reader. I think it's amazing. I did wish they incorporated a magstripe reader in there though, mostly for gift cards.

I agree.

Have you ever tried entering a gift card manually? I've never used a gift card with square to try it.

New Square readers have Apple Pay, do they not?
They do, but that's assuming all of my customers have Apple phones with it set up. The reader works great with Apple Pay and cards with the chip. Occasionally I get a gift card or a really old card without a chip, so those have to be swiped through the old reader, which plugs into the audio jack.
