Have an iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2.1 that has gone into boot loop hell. Hoping someone may know of a solution. Here’s the background:

- Has been going on for a week now.
- Have attempted about eleventy billion hard reboots.
- One week ago, after trying to restore and update connected to Mac and iTunes for a couple of hours, it did restore, only to go into the loop again the next day.
- The next night, it recovered by itself and booted up.
- It went into boot loop again on Saturday.
- Have tried hard reboots, holding home (volume down) button to try and get to restore screen on iPhone (which worked on first resuscitation), but doesn’t work now.
- iTunes (which is latest version), will try to restore, but ot stops when the status screen on iTunes says its’s verifying the update with Apple. It then displays error number 6.
- Error 6 says it’s either something blocking communication (think security software) or bad cable. However, that error 6 always appears despite using different cables, shutting down VPN and/or virus protection, different ISPs, and using two different machines (one PC, one Mac).

Does anybody have any suggestions and/or solutions?

Hellloooooo. I have the same exact problem with my iPhone 8 Plus. It’s most likely a hardware problem. Try bringing it to the store

What happened just prior to this boot-loop hell; was the phone dropped, damaged, came into contact with water or was it previously repaired? That could give us a clue as to what is causing this.

  • Try these things (if you haven't already) to see if anything helps:
  • Try a hard reset (Home & Power button for 10 secs)
  • Use a genuine Apple Lightning connector
  • Use a genuine Apple charging brick and let it charge overnight
  • Try to connect it to different computers (mac/pc if possible) with an updated iTunes
  • Put the phone in recovery mode (search DFU Mode). Careful, this can reset your data
  • Use 3uTools for putting it in and out of Recovery Mode
  • Use 3uTools to flash the firmware (you can't downgrade)

If you're comfortable opening up your phone, the consider:
  • Check the condition of all the flexes (with magnification)
  • Disconnect the Front Camera Ribbon from the logic board and reboot your phone
  • Disconnect the screen assembly completely and see if iTunes will recognize the phone.

Otherwise, you may have a logic board issue. If you are uncomfortable doing these steps, consider finding a repair shop to do the troubleshooting. A shop that also does micro-soldering can go deeper if the problem is not modular in nature.

Thank you for the replies, this was for GF’s Phone, and she wasn’t aware she still had AC protection. She brought it in to AS, asked a couple of questions and then replaced it, saying it’s a hardware issue.
