Hello all,
My son knocked my wifes 7 out of her hand yesterday and it hit hard on a tile floor. She has a case on it(with a claimed 7' drop protection) and there is no damage at all. I am assuming the internals are though.. Ever since the drop the screen is black and will not turn on. I tried resetting it, hard reset etc. The phone is on because the haptic feedback for the home button works. Itunes is asking for the passcode to be able to do anything with it on there but the screen is not working so we can't type the passcode in.. Even tried to type it in on the black screen with no luck. Finger print will not unlock it either. Took it to verizon and they are going to replace the phone but I am trying to get the pics and data off it before sending it in. Even tried a data recovery program off the internet which also asks for the passcode which is not possible to type in. Is there any way to get the passcode typed in without a working screen? Mainly concerned with the pics on the phone as it seems everything else important was backed up to icloud. I saw something about using a keyboard with a lightning to camera adapter to type the passcode. Would this work? Also, what are the chances an apple store could get the screen working under warranty(no visible damage)? I live 2 hours away from one though..
Thanks for any help you can give.
Jon

This is one of the few negatives about having a password/code on your device.

It is why you must do backups often. Was this phone backing up every night to the cloud? If so you can restore from there.

Pictures are a problem and unless you had them backing up to the cloud . . . . .

When you plug your phone into a computer, it should show up as a storage device.

Also interested to see if the Lightning Camera adapter would work

I have a iPhone 6 broken LCD and digitizer and I want to get all of the stuff of it off!

I hear ya on back ups. Looking at her iCloud she won't lose her calendar events and other important things. Main issue is photos since the iCloud storage was never enough the photo back up was off. Tried getting them from the internal storage through the computer with no luck. Says the storage is empty. This doesn't make sense because I can plug min in which also has a passcode and view my photos without unlocking the phone. So that kinda tells me the damage is significant. I could see if my phone required the passcode to access the internal storage but it doesn't. Hers just shows empty. I can tell you one thing. I will be backing up more often that's for sure after this.

Hi, the phone doesn't decide weather it wants to let you backup based on it's damage

On the device you must allow the computer to access (confirmed on screen on the iPhone) or it won't allow the computer to access anything about the phone

I understand that but my iPhone 7 will allow access to internal storage without the passcode but hers will not. Does that mean the the hard drive could be damaged to he point I can't do anything about it anyway?

You must have confirmed it before, and she hasn't

You have unlocked the door before, so it's unlocked forever, however she has not
[doublepost=1487081269][/doublepost]About the USB adapter to unlock phone, I would go for it
Plus you can return it if it doesn't work

Man this is annoying. I usually transfer her photos every once in a while and Haven't yet on this new phone. If I Would have have just one time since October I could get those photos probably. I will have to try that adapter to see if it will work. No other options I can think of.

I know the feeling
As I said before, I have a 6 that you can't see the screen (although I have a HDMI adapter and that works) and you can't touch the screen, but I really want to back it up

I read online Bluetooth keyboards and they said it had to be paired before, but I didn't have any
I personally am going to buy the USB adapter this Friday

The wife picked up the adapter. I will try that with a USB keyboard to hopefully get it unlocked to be able to at least drag the photos to the computer. I don't ever remember needing to "trust the computer" to do that. Keeping my fingers crossed.

let me know when you try it, don't want to pay $30 for something that won't work

I am still at work and its driving me crazy trying to figure out if this is going to be possible. If the phone was originally set up with that computer it will already trust it correct? The thing that should only be holding me up is the passcode issue I am hoping. Because I am reading that once you enter the passcode it may ask to trust the computer which I also will not be able to select. I tested my phone on my work computer and i can unlock it but it still asks to trust it since I never hooked it to that computer. So I am hoping being that her phone was originally restored from a back up from her iphone 6 it already trusts the computer.. What do you think?

I would say it is your only chance.

Doubt the already trusted thing since it's a new phone, backup doesn't matter

However you could try to use the left and right arrow keys to select an option

Use siri to enable voiceover if you need to press the trust button. Just using the arrow keys normally won't do it.

You're right! Was trying to do VoiceOver on my 6, but it asked for passcode to use Siri :(

I would imagine pairing the lightning HDMI adapter with the lightning usb camera kit would make this task pretty easy, but for that price, you might as well just buy a cheap china screen to type the passcode in with

this dumbass already bought one, so I'm 30 away

And I usually only go to Apple for repairs, but they denied me because my case's IMEI doesn't match motherboard

So a china screen is only option to make it work like a normal phone

Well no luck. Was able to use the key board to unlock my working phone but no luck unlocking the broken phone. iTunes kept asking for the passcode and I also could not access the files. So annoying that if I would have JUST ONCE trusted the computer I could just slide all the pics off the phone and into a folder. But since I didn't it's not possible.

Don't want to make you spend more money, but I would love to see what's on the screen with the HDMI adapter

eBay might have a cheap one

One of my students has one of those and may bring it to school tomorrow for me to borrow
