I heard a few reports about the matte black finish coming off from iPhone 7 by daily usage without a case. Personally i have the matte black 7+ and keep it in a case most of the time. I did not experience the finish coming off until now.

Here is a video about the issue from a german YouTuber:

Scroll to minute 8:00 to see the issue. He says the iPhone is not smudgy and he did not treat it bad. A friend of him has the same issue. Does anyone of you experience similar issues?

That looks kinda like greasy fingerprints to me, but I have no idea what he's saying since I don't speak German. Gotta say though I will laugh my ass off if all those Matte Black owners that scoffed at the "scratchable" Jet Black end up with phones that look even worse when the whole damn finish comes off. :D

The only thing I see in that video after watching a couple of times, is someone who needs to wash their hands more often.

That's not a finish being removed by any stretch of the imagination, it is exactly what grubby, greasy fingerprints looks like on a matte anodised aluminium surface. Clean the damn thing properly.

That was my first thought too but I have to say the shot at 8:25 sure looks like silver showing from underneath the black finish. Could just be the lighting though. Or he took some sandpaper to it.

Yeah it's deceiving, I watched it a few times to be sure but it looks 100% like light reflection on a grubby matte finish. I've seen an awful lot of that in my time (including on my own devices, we all pick up grime from time to time) and I'd be more than stunned if that wasn't just a phone in need of a damn good clean.

It's easy to replicate if you'd like to try. Get yourself some chips, yum. After eating them, with your fingers of course, pick up your AppleTV/Fire TV/anything that's a matte black plastic or anodised aluminium and burl it around in the light. Instant silver spots. Then you can lick off those yummy chip flavoured smears :p

Edit

Burl: Scottish slang; To turn or swing round in a joyful manner. Just thought I'd add that in as I re-read this in passing. you must excuse my somewhat disgustingly distorted grasp of the English language, such a terrible vernacular, one does apologise :D

I speak german and you can be assured that he states pretty clearly that this it is not from greasy fingers. He says he cleaned it properly. He is a quiet popular YouTuber in Germany with a range in tech reviews. He says another friend of him has the same problem.

But apparently them two are the only ones experiencing this particular problem. So far I haven't read or heard of anyone who has a similar issue with their iPhone 7 (Plus) in matte black

exactly. to me it looks like my phone does when it gets smudges.

Well I'm certainly not calling the chap a liar. But I'm afraid from what I see in the video I'd have to see it in person before I was convinced. How much is a flight to Germany these days :D

Yea, lol. The whole JB v MB cracks me up. Like really....who gives a **** lol.

Well me for one. This is a very important subject that requires a lot of carefully considered discussion, there are many intricate factors to be considered. It's not simply a matter of an individuals opinion or preference, this is a matter that affects the entire iPhone buying population, if not the worlds publ....

..... Nah, even I can't finish that arse gravy, I tried, I really tried :D

Look at that. Another amateur YouTuber has defeated Apple. Well I guess I better cancel my order. All these YouTubers keep revealing all the lies that are being told to me.

You think Cook, Ive and Schiller are right now in handcuffs in front of 1 Infinite Loop uttering the words "We would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you meddling kids!"

What is wrong with you? He is quite famous in Germany and his channel not about cheap sensational news. In fact he talks about the issue in a very calm and objective way.
It seems to be an issue and i am very sure we will hear about issues like this more often in the near future.
And please stop fighting in this thread the b***sh** color war. Thank you.

A Youtuber will say whatever they want true or not true; and sometimes to gain views intentionally causing controversy.

I do not consider a Youtube claim as credible. Credible would have been to wipe it clean with cleaner on camera and prove they are not greasy smudges.

They are shiny like greasy smudges. If the anodizing was coming off it would be showing aluminum/silver color per the videos of people scratch testing the matte black.
