hello,

This question is for existing mebers who are using as their main phone the iPhone 7 plus with iOS 14.7.1 installed.

I wanted to know how their phones are fairing in terms of stability, speed, etc. any issues, like battery drain, camera issues, etc, anything even if it is the smallest issue.

I am thinking of upgrading my iPhone 7 plus 128GB which is running on iOS 10.3.2 It also has a new battery.

Currently my phone is running fine, basic apps are running fine, no drop in performance. Some websites don't load properly in safari, but they work fine in the duckduckgo app. I have no issues with my current setup.

Thank you

lapsaj

If it means anything, why wife's iphone 7 plus was just fine on iOS 14.X but we upgraded before seeing 14.7.X. It "should" be fine to update but note that if you do, most likely you won't be able to go back(I don't think FutureRestore will work as the SEP difference between that many versions won't work.) It has been a long time since I ran iOS 10, so I cannot say if I remember it being faster in comparison.

At the end of the day, it up to you but be prepared to be stuck if you do proceed with the update.

If you are happy where you are, you can probably stay put for now but just remember that at some point, various applications will require a version of iOS that is newer than where you are at, if not already. Depending on the need for the specific app, you might need to update at that time to keep the app working.

Unfortunately with tech, at some point, we all have to update or upgrade, we can try to hold out but eventually, most apps will drop support for older OS or device, then we are SOL.

I like the features of iOS 14.7.1 but:
When fully charged, my 7 plus with iOS 10.3 lasted almost two days. Now on iOS 14.7.1, with a lot of luck, it will make a day. Important note: The battery was replaced two months ago (original Apple battery).

I don't think this is just an iphone 7 issue. A lot of users have been having battery issues that started with either 14.4 or 14.5. I have read many times on this forum that even the iphone 12 had better battery before the iOS 14.4 update and that it never fully came back to normal since.

I use an iPhone 7+ 128GB as my work phone. I ran 14.7.1 with no issues what so ever. My personal phone is an XR running 14.7.1, and frankly I don't notice a huge difference in performance between the two. Granted, I don't mobile game or use processor intensive applications very often on either phone.

On a whim, I enrolled in the iOS 15 beta program on my 7+ and am running the latest beta -- knowing that I could just wipe the phone if I needed to. 15, Beta 8 has been running just as good as 14.7.1 and hasn't slowed down my phone at all. I know your question was specific to 14.7.1; just thought I add this quip about 15.

I can add that running 15 beta 8 on my 12 Pro has been just as good as 14.7.1 if not better as well. I think it is actually better but I don't want to toot my horn, just in case I am assuming, haha.

I've got an iPhone running on iOS 9 and web browsing on any interactive site pretty much is always a failure. Internet for the most part is almost unusable on iOS 9. iOS 10 is right behind it so you don't have long until nothing on the Internet works for you either.
I never updated this iPhone for the same reason you haven't and at this point I never will since it's an iPhone 6.
So either keep your phone on iOS 10 until it becomes unbearable then buy a newer phone, or just update it to iOS 14 now. I've got an iPhone 7 running iOS 14.7.1 and it doesn't seem slower but I can't comment on battery life cuz I never use that phone long enough to find out (it's s backup phone).

Yes you are right. The banking and Investment apps have stopped supporting iOS 10. Which isn't a big deal as I usually use my laptop for this.

All that works is social media apps.

I don't like buying new phones unless I have to and that is only if my current phone stops working. This iPhone 7 plus seems like a strong work horse. My iPhone 4 was stopped in its tracks by iOS 7. Slowed down that I was forced to buy the iPhone 5. I think its around this time apple started to slow down the phones (as did other manufacturers).

Still got my iPhone 5 32GB as a music player. I upgraded to the 7 as my Dad got the 8 plus and thr extra memory was welcomed with a smile.

Forgive me I digress.

I replaced the battery myself. I think I can get a full days use on iOS 10. That's mainly YouTube and 8ball pool.

I have deleted social media apps and the messaging apps are turned off so they don't run in the background as they suck alot of battery.

I think battery issues are across all phones and depends on usage.

This is very very promising. So much so that I will prepare my phone to upgrade it.

Although I know it won't be as super fast as a new iPhone. I think stability is main concern and that heavy apps like YouTube, banking apps whatsapp etc all load fairly quickly.

My iPhone 4 which still works. YouTube takes around 7 seconds to fully load up ?

Today I reset my phone as it kept on crashing alot and would freeze and restart by itself. After a reset and restore (nightmare. iTunes is rubbish) this process freed up 40GB of space (I had around 5GB before the restore) and the performance increased alot.

So far the internet is bearable. I find sites that don't load properly in safari load fine, for now, in the duckduckgo app.

How does your iphone 7 compare to your primary phone. I am guessing it is also an iPhone.

Note that if your phone is affected by the infamous Loop disease, updated may make your device unusable. iOS 11 and newer perform a complete hardware check on boot, and if it detects failures on the audio IC it will boot loop. I'd recommend staying on iOS 10 for this reason alone, rather have an out of date phone than a busted one.

It's not always possible to tell whether a 7 is affected, but a way to test is to open Voice Memos and if the recording is greyed out you are affected. Other signs may include speaker not working, no mic, and other audio issues. Major design defect on 7 series phones.

My iPhone 7 plus works fine, voice memos speakers etc all work fine, apart from iOS 10 not being supported by a growing number of apps, it works fine.

But thank you for pointing this out.
