My battery design capacity has been depreciating dramatically over the past few months. I got my phone in November and I'm at 86% capacity. Alternatively my iPhone 6 from 3 years ago is at 95% capacity. I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or if the battery itself is defective.

I use an iPad charger to charge it, but Apple says that's okay.

How are your design capacities? This can be accessed by downloading an app like Battery Doctor.

Try resetting you iPhone 7+ first to see if the battery capacity returns to normal. If it doesn't, I would take it to Apple and have them check the battery.

I had problems with the battery for my iPhone 7+ and Apple advised me to reset it. After resetting it, it was OK.

Oh no. They had me reset it initially and it didn't work. Then they had me restore it to factory settings and it didn't work. Finally today I called them and they're shipping me a replacement. They noticed that it was depreciating abnormally at the Apple Store so maybe it was a defect?

Mine is at around 93% when I check with an app but it feels like it dies much quicker than that. I suspect it’s mostly my use though as I’m a heavy user.

I did buy a mophie case recently for it which added a lot of peace of mind and adds 50% to the life which is more than enough even for my heavy use. It also added wireless charging, so now I don’t feel as compelled to upgrade to the 8 plus or X either, lol.

I got the phone on November, now stands at 90-91%. I'm still wondering whether fast-charging using iPad bricks does hurt the battery in the long term, although I know Apple says we can use them, because I charge my phone using iPad brick.

I haven't noticed any change in battery life for my 7+ and I updated to iOS 11. I'm not exactly in love with all the newer features of iOS 11, but I can't see any difference at all in battery performance.

My 7 Plus battery life deteriorated dramatically in the last three months I owned it. From taking it off charge in the morning to arriving at work two hours later it would be down to 85% with only some light web browsing and half an hour of music on the walk to work. For the first year or so, it was often still on 100% after exactly the same and I only had to charge it every other day. Settings were all optimised to preserve battery too.

Prior to that, my two year old iPhone 6 was getting to the stage of being virtually unusable as the battery was so unreliable.

Would love to know what i’m doing wrong.

I can go days without having the charge my 7+, only 1 time did I have an issue where it drained, but not since, didn't do anything either to the phone. Haven't checked the health lately, I think I was in the 90s sometime earlier this year.

suddenly it's now 87.3% today, I wonder if this is normal at all.

I have no idea how you guys can get 12 hours of usage time on the 7 Plus. I can only get around 5-6 hours usage time. I have background crap turned off, a majority of notifications turned off, and plenty of other battery tweaks in place. What’s the secret? How do you have your phone configured?

the phone is less than a week old so not sure if I know the secret yet but for the first time since apps started I am avoiding Twitter and Facebook and I will just use Safari for those.

I dont know if I trust the Usage numbers I am more impressed with the 40 hours of standby, being able to use the phone normally and go 2 days between a charge is what was great for me

Resetting a device will not change the physical hardware health of the battery.

My iPhone 7Plus did really well for the first 200 charge cycles, then started to drop in health quickly. I traded it in last week, but with that being said, battery health is not linear. It can drop from 100% to 85% in a month and then stay on 85% for 2 years. Pretty much as long as its about 80% at 500 cycles, its normal.

That's true but resetting does sometimes correct a wayward app that's sucking up the battery. Apple will advise to reset first and if that doesn't help, then it's time to take it in and have the battery checked.

No they won't. They will run a battery diagnostic first to see if its hardware related. They always do hardware tests before making you restore software.

The biggest contributors to bad battery life (as in stripped capacity) is because if you use an unofficial cable, or a cable that does not carry adequate charge to the phone (maybe because it's stripped or damaged) if the cable keeps recycling your phone, then your battery is going to wear down faster.

That said, iPhone 7 Plus batteries are pretty cheap. I think they sell them for about $30 on Amazon. Just replace it and it'll be as good as new.

I know that I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead, but almost a year after the last post I'm curious how peoples' iPhone 7 Plus batteries are holding up. To get things started, after nearly two years of use mine is at 91%.
