Anyone surprised apple put in those dummy speakers at the bottom- don't recall them ever doing something like that before

I don't remember Apple claiming that the left grill was a dummy speaker. Everybody assumed it might be a second speaker judging by its appearance.

Is the second grille not a speaker? Is the "second speaker" the earpiece? If so, then all is good.

The second speaker is the earpiece. I think it works pretty well. The earpiece cutout is slightly longer than on my 6s+.

Mine are pretty evenly balanced, but you can adjust the balance under Accessibility in Settings.
Doesn't this affect headphones too though? Meaning your headphones, which should definitely be balanced, would be out of whack until another manual adjustment.

I think what you guys are experiencing is the effect of water proofing on the phone. Same thing happened with the Note 7. Sound at times were muffled. But it comes down to what's more important to you. Waterproofing and more bass.

Hi,

I would say I even prefer the sound output from the 2-year-old iPhone 6 to the 7 Plus, because it's just so tinny and has very little bass.

The 6 has the best speaker. Apple has been making it worse with each new iteration of the phone.

The 6S+ had a crappy speaker compared to the excellent speaker on the 6+ so I doubt that it's down to waterproofing. I would be very happy for the 6+ loudspeaker to be in every iPhone until I die.

Agree.

I didn't realize that the 6s had tinny speakers as well. Coming from a 6+ (which had a nice full rich sounding loudspeaker), I was shocked when I first heard the notification sounds coming out of my 7+. Cheap, tinny, flat noise. Exactly what you'd expect to hear out of a thousand dollar phone, right?

Yes, ,my point was it's the first time I can recall apple putting in a dummy anything, just for aesthetics ...

Apple has done that before. When the iPhone 4 came out with the controverisal antenna bands, there was 3 black lines separating the different antennas for cellular and wifi. One of the black lines is a dummy just to make it symmetrical with the other side.

The left 'speaker' grille on the 7/7+ is indeed a dummy grille housing the mic instead of a speaker. But it serves another purpose as a barometric chamber to equalise the internal pressure of the iPhone with the air outside so that the barometer in the iPhone can work properly. So there's still a use for the fake grille.

No more complaints about these tinny speakers? Is everyone wowed because there are two? I'd take one good speaker over two lousy ones any day of the week.

[doublepost=1483380614][/doublepost]I have a slightly different issue that I assume is the speaker. People I call are telling me that I sound MUCH MORE like I'm in a tunnel on my new Iphone 7 plus than I did on my 5s. Is this related to the issue being discussed? Is there some setting for this?
