Photography is a hobby I have. While I usually bring my DSLR I wanted to see how the iPhone 7 RAW images look like after some editing. Using the same process as I use to edit the RAW files from a Nikon D810.

This is no scientific article, just a quick look.

Check it out if you want: http://all-about-apple.com/iphone-7-plus-raw/

PS. You can download the unprocessed RAW files as well if you want to play around yourself.

I dont think the iPhone 7 Camera can replace a DSLR, and you can see the noise from the small sensor when you pixel peep. With that said, most people doesnt pixel-peep images and if you print them and hang them on a wall I doubt you would see that much of a difference.

I 100% agree. Tried the raw mode yesterday just even on my 6s, with my 7+ on the way, and even on the 6s it's damn impressive, how much dynamic range there is in those sensors. I always thought it was limited by the sensor and not by compression or the ISP.

just compare these two: http://chfilm.de/download/raw.jpg vs http://chfilm.de/download/jpeg.jpg

I can see more noise in your raw.jpg file and more compression artifacts in the jpeg.jpg file. Noise is better than jpeg artifacts imho.

Yes I think the noise looks WAY better than the compression. Plus the dynamic range is insane!
