Except not at all. Bezel's have been reduced significantly as well as heft and width in the back.

Also your snarky comment doesn't cover the fact that every single Android phone managed to completely change their design in the past few years but Apple hasn't.
Every Android phone completely changed their design in the past few years? No hyperbole or extreme absolutes there at all.

Newer TV’s are expensive. Sorry you haven’t been able to upgrade, vibes bro.
What does that have to do with design?

If you can get by with 32G of storage, the base iPhone 7 and 7+ are very good buys. I considered the iPhone 7 as an upgrade to my 6S, but given I needed more storage, it made sense to go up to the 8.

Really? Seriously though, really? More? It was a rubbish upgrade over the 6S.

Erm, iPhone 6s to 7:

* Wide Colour Gamut and brighter screen
* Stereo Speakers
* Haptics and new home button
* Two new black finishes and in total 4 other finishes
* IP67 Water Resistance
* Dual cameras on iPhone 7+
* Extended battery on both models

Meanwhile iPhone 7 to 8

* Portrait Lighting on iPhone 8+
* Wireless charging
* True Tone
* A glass back you’ll forget about once you put it in a case and only 3 finishes, back to 1 black faced phone
* Stereo Speakers slightly louder
* A faster A11 chip
* No change to battery life, water resistance, screen resolution or RAM.

Which upgrade is more compelling? iPhone 7 caught my interest more because more felt new at the time.

If the 6s to 7 is a rubbish upgrade, then 7 to 8 is.....a double whammy rubbish upgrade because it’s even less different and the laziness in areas is just showing here.

The 8 feels too much like a clone of the 7 that’s even in some ways a step back. For example, people that prefer the black faced iPhone are forced to go with the space Grey, last year they had a choice between Matte Black and Jet Black so everyone was happy. I feel like they brought back Space Grey (albeit a bit darker) just have an excuse to call it “new” despite last years Matte Black was overwhelmingly popular

And don't forget if you went to the 7 Plus it introduced 3 GB of RAM which is still going to be the most RAM you get until probably next years cycle when an OLED Plus model is introduced. And I still wouldn't hold my breath for another RAM increase.

They actually reduced the number of colours to save costs imo as too much of it was spent on iPhone X. The jet black iPhone manages to look better than all the iPhone 8 colour variants. I only upgraded to 7 Plus for the bigger screen, dual cameras and a bigger battery all,of which made it a sizeable upgrade. The iPhone 8 doesn't have anything compelling for a 7 user.

I agree. I’ve got the Jet Black 7+. If I were to upgrade to the 8 which would make no sense, I’d be forced to give up the now novelty defunct colour, which I may add, makes the phone look different from a typical 6/6s because of the seamless look (yes some days I actually go caseless, grip is excellent)

I’m very incentivised to stick with my 7 therefore as at the end of the day, ask myself, do I need a new phone. Answer is no, the 7+ is still a beast of a phone. So, I’ll save all that money then. :)

That doesn’t mean a design change is an improvement. Change for changes sake maybe.
Reducing bezels for instance like on the Pro 10.5 has actual benefits. Design changes are necessary to keep things fresh.

The glass back is actually irrelevant. Drop the phone and your phone is toast. You will end up putting it in a case more times than not compared to aluminium which makes this change pointless.

Not all design changes keep things fresh. Reduced bezels to no bezels are changes for changes sake and don’t do anything to keep things fresh.
The iPad Pro 10.5 managed to fit a 10.5 screen in the same size as 9.7 by reducing bezels and it looked much bigger than my old tablet. They could easily have done it on the iPhone 8 Plus and increased screen size. These are tangible benefits.

Tangible benefits to some, others like the bezels, like me. But back to the point “keeping things fresh” for “keeping things fresh” sake doesn’t buy anything.

A bigger screen in the same footprint is a tangible benefit for everyone. That's the main selling point about the iPhone X.

I am not saying just randomly change stuff. But a lot of useful changes could have been done to the design. Reduction of bezels is just one of them.

I think 7 on 10.3.3 or some iOS 10 may even be a superior experience to 8 on iOS 11 in its current form on the phone, benchmarks and bells and whistles aside

Well, 7 brought in waterproofing, a solid home button and a Fusion chip, all of which were well worth updating for, imo.

Put an asterisk next to the first.

Because Apple doesn't warrantee any work... if it should fail.

I have an 8. Love the wireless charging. Didn't get a 7 because the 8 will probably make it through a couple of more ios updates after the 7. In the long run it makes more sense, no more upgrade for another 5 years where the 7 will need to be upgraded in about 2-3 years.

Anyone who thinks Apple cares whether the 8 isn't selling is fooling themselves, 7 or 8 it's money in their pockets.

You’re delusional.

The iPhone 8 too has 2 GB RAM. It may last at most 1 yr over the 7 but would be so slow during its final one year due to its limited RAM that it will make you cry.

An iPhone 7 should remain fine till (including) iOS 12 or if you’re lucky then iOS 13. By that time you’ll need to change the iPhone 8 too. And if you’re lucky, you may have a iPhone 5s on iOS 11 experience with your iPhone 8 on iOS 14.

Yes, iPhone 7 will be supported till after iOS 13 but wouldn’t be usable. The same goes for iPhone 8 with iOS 13/14.

Apple can claim the iPhone is made of the most durable material, but when it hits the ground from a fall, there are so many variables that can cause it to break based on impact, surface type that it landed on, and angle. Cases help, but accidents will always happen. That's where Apple Care helps as well.
